About SND
The Society for News Design (SND) is an international organization for news media professionals and visual communicators – specifically those who create print/web/mobile publications and products. Our members art direct, design, edit, report, illustrate, make photos and video, visualize data
– and write code.
Founded in 1979, it is a US-registered non-profit organization with around 1,500 members worldwide. Among other activities, we host an annual Best of News Design competition open to newspapers and magazines
from around the world, and a yearly conference (rotating through various cities) that brings in visual journalists from all over the world.

Luis (Monterrey, 1974) was rise in the extremely visual culture of Mexico’s 80s: colorful, vibrant, influence, baroque, mod-ernist industrial and Mexican and Amer-ican pop art, sparkled with American tv, Japanese cartoons, spaghetti westerns and Vinyl albums; this mixture, that hold a bit of this and that, is reflected in his characters that are so apparent well know yet never seen.The natural incli-nation to express ideas through images became his way of living, drawing most of the time since childhood, pushed his experimentation in styles, at times so minimalistic, that a couple of lines produce a portrait; this constant doing, landed him as graphic artist for the most prestigious publishers in the north-east of Mexico, at a very young age and then took him to work across Mexico and USA for several newspapers, magazines, rock bands, Tv Channels, among others requesting his illustrations and artworks. http://www.luisvzz.net/

Eduardo Baptistão was born in São Paulo. Graduated in Advertising from Cásper Líbero University in 1988. He has been an illustrator in the publishing market since 1985, when published his first work on Folha de São Paulo. He has collaborated with publications such as Jornal da Tarde,Vogue, Vip, Who, Sexy, Playboy, Scoreboard, among others. He has been an illustrator of Estadão since 1991 and collaborator of Carta Capital, Veja and Época Negócios Magazines. Five-time winner of the HQMix Trophy as best Caricaturista, won other import-ant prizes in the Brazil (as the Interna-tional Humor Salon of Piracicaba and the Carioca Salon of Humor, among others) and abroad (World Press Cartoon, from Portugal, and Tehran International Car-toon Biennial, from Iran, where he also later served as a jury). Nuri Ducassi is a cuban-born art director, designer and illustrator. She has worked as art director, designer and illustrator at El Nuevo Herald, The San Jose Mercury News, The Miami Herald, The Montreal Gazette and The Toronto Star. After three years as AME design at the Star, she continues to work as their creative director for print from her Florida base. She has taught at The pointer Institute, in Europe, Latin America and Asia. She has been recognized by SND as a designer and illustrator in multiple occa-sions and has twice received the highest honor in Canadian journalism the NNAs.
RAMCHANDRA BABU
Ramchandra Babu, senior illustrator and Feature page designer at the daily in Dubai, served as a features and illustra-tion judge at the prestigious Society for News Design competition in Syracuse University, N.Y.,—a first from the region—in 2008. A year earlier, he received the silver award from SND, another first in the region. Since 2007, Babu has received SND Awards of Excellence every year for five years. He has also won several awards from WAN-IFRA and Malofiej. He works with the news team to create information graphics, illustrations and cartoons. For four years since 2000, Ramchandra Babu was the designer and illustrator of the country’s leading Arabic language newspaper Al Bayan. There he created caricatures and portraits of political and business figures in the Arab world. Prior to joining the Newspaper, he was the art director of Your Health magazine. Edel Rodriguez is a Cuban American artist whose work is regularly published by some of the world’s top publications, such at TIME, Newsweek, The New Yorker and Der Spiegel. He is a regular contributor to The New York Times Op Ed page and has exhibited internation-ally with shows in The United States, Europe and Latin America. In 1994, Ro-driguez graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, and later earned an MFA at Hunter College in Manhattan. Fernando Carvall, was born in Sao Paulo (Brazil). He is a graduated in fine arts at FAAP in Fine Arts and postgraduate in animation by SENAC. He collaborates as a cartoonist and illustrator for the biggest brazilian newspaper Folha de S. Paulo since 1990 and Valor Econômico since 2011. He also collaborated as illustrator for publications such as Abril, Globo, Casa Amarela, Saraiva, Moderna and Brasil among others and with SESC and MTV. Lecturer at SENAC Visual Communication Faculty in Sao Paulo, Multimeios at PUC and European Insti-tute of Design.
