Dear Kids’ Chance Organizations and Supporters,

It’s been almost three months since we were all together in Arkansas at the Annual Meeting, and that means we’re three months closer to Awareness Week 2016 for Kids’ Chance of America and state organizations across the country! During the annual meeting, we as a whole made the commitment to put the Awareness Week button on our state websites and link it back to the national site. We also set a goal to work to secure a governor’s proclamation in as many states as possible. While November feels like a long way off as you’re enjoying the summer sun, Awareness Week will be here before you know it. If you haven’t updated your state website yet, now is the time! Please visit the Kids’ Chance website to find the button for you to download. We’ve also included a template governor’s proclamation for you to download as part of our promotional toolkit, also available on the Awareness Week page.

Additionally, the promotional toolkit contains three different stories with images you can use during the week on your website or blog. It also has suggested social media posts so that it’s quick and easy to share the Kids’ Chance mission on social media. Lastly, we’ve included a list of suggested activities you may want to consider as you plan out what you’re going to do during the week. As you determine your plans for November, please take advantage of the event submission form on the Awareness Week page to let national know what you’re doing. We will be collecting all of the activities and sharing them on our site, and we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as that’s live.

Our first National Awareness Week was a tremendous success, and last year was just the beginning! Thank you in advance for your support in making the 2016 Awareness Week another achievement for Kids’ Chance of America and chapters across the country.

The Faces of Kids’ Chance - Brittney “I graduated this year from Vintage High School in Napa, CA. I am enrolled to attend Concordia University in Nebraska this fall. I will be studying pre-medicine, and will also be playing softball.

I have studied and trained very hard the past four years of high school. I have played competitive softball since I was eight years old. When I was accepted to Concordia University, I was very excited. They have an incredible medical program, and they are one of few Universities that would allow me to still play sports while pursuing this major.

I visited the school this past spring, and I knew it was the right fit for me. The campus was absolutely beautiful, and the students and staff were very friendly. This school was a place that I knew I could succeed at. I sat down with my academic counselor and went over the cost of tuition ($31,450). I was shocked and scared to see how much an education was going to cost me. I went home and discussed this with my parents.

Resource LibraryKids’ Chance of America maintains a resource library for its member state organizations. There is information, sample documents, guidelines and templates for your use and reference.

To access the resource library through the member portal, please click the Member Portal button in the top right hand corner of the Kids’ Chance of America website. For log-in information, please contact the Kids’ Chance office at [email protected].

My father is a medically retired Deputy Sheriff in California. He was injured in the line of duty a few years ago, and after 3 failedsurgeries, he was forced to medically retire from his career. Because of this unforeseen injury and the loss of his job, my parents have been unable to help me financially with college.

I was very excited when my parents gave me the award letter telling me that I had been chosen to receive a Kid’s Chance Scholarship! This money will really help me out, and is very much appreciated!

Thank you so much for hearing my story and believing in me! I will not let you down.”

Our Faces of Kids’ Chance community continues to grow. Please encourage any Kids’ Chance scholarship recipient to share their story through our online form, which can be found on the Share Your Story page. We can’t wait to meet them.

Kids’ Chance of Pennsylvania - Golf Outing Receives Strong SupportSunday, May 15, 2016 was a great day for the Kids’ Chance of Pennsylvania 11th Annual Golf Outing. A brisk but sunny day greeted the golfers who arrived to “Tee Off for the Kids” in support of our mission to provide scholarships to children who struggle to maintain sufficient financial support due to a parent’s workers’ compensation injury or fatality.

Due to its success last year, we continued our newly laid tradition of kicking off the day with a recognition luncheon to highlight our Partners and Scholar Sponsors and thank them for their support.

Kids’ Chance of PA President Chris Davis welcomed golfers to the recognition luncheon and provided the latest and greatest news from Kids’ Chance of PA. Following the acknowledgment of our Partners and Scholar Sponsors, Kids’ Chance of Pennsylvania scholarship recipients Baylee Bortz (sophomore at University of Pennsylvania), Tyler Stull (sophomore at Philadelphia University) and Savannah Sullivan (sophomore at The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown) inspired the group with their remarks. These three students each shared their own, personal story, with one familiar theme: sincere thanks to Kids’ Chance for the scholarships that have helped them pursue their educational goals.

Thank you to everyone who attended! This was our most memorable golf outing yet and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2016.
