Is the red panda related to the giant panda? And why do baboons have such red bottoms? School classes and pri-vate tours for you and your children or your colleagues – at the Zoo School, everyone can learn about the Zoological Garden, the Tropical Aquarium and their inhabitants.

For information about our various tours and our rallies for adults and children, visit hagenbeck.de – you can also make bookings on +49 (0)40 540 53 23 or [email protected]

Tropical Aquarium

Take a look at exotic animals all along the Equator, scent the jungle, immerse yourself in a colourful underwater world – it’s a dream.

And the dream becomes reality at the Tropical Aquarium. In a complex extending over 8,000 m2, embark on an expedition to faraway, hidden habitats occupied by over 14,300 creatures. Keep a lookout for free-roaming ring-tailed lemurs, free-flying birds and some of the most dangerous animals in the world such as Nile crocodiles and venomous snakes.

Your path leads you through the continents of Africa, South America and Asia, and straight into mysterious and exotic scenery.The amazing colours and shapes of many types of corals and fishes will enchant you, while you can look forward to meeting bats, rare insects, scorpions and frogs in all their luminous, colourful glory in the caves.

A fascinating highlight is the great shark reef. Look through our giant panorama window and watch sharks and rays course through one of Europe’s biggest salt water aquariums.

Your day at Hagenbeck

Zoological Garden

Welcome to the wild side of Hamburg! Hagenbeck Zoological Garden is as much part of Hamburg as its har-bour, St Michael’s Church and the Elbphilharmonie. Animals from every continent – more than 1,850 in total – live in our spacious enclosures and beautiful, botanically diverse landscaped parklands.

Get to know our animals close up during feeding times and feed an ele-phant or giraffe yourself*. Pony rides*, fairy-tale train*, a petting enclo-sure and our big playground are just some of the other highlights that await you at the Zoological Garden.

A visit to our unique polar world is another experience not to be missed. Creatures from the North and South Pole mingle together. Observe our cute penguins in their ice grotto and enjoy breath-taking views of our polar bears and fur seals above and below the water. And for a very spe-cial treat, Germany’s only walruses will welcome you from one of the world’s deepest walrus basins.

* From March to October.
