One Book, One Village With a grant from the SBM Charitable Foundation, Inc., the Manchester Public Library is sponsoring a community-wide One Book program. The National Book Award winning novel 'Let the Great World Spin' by Colum McCann is the reading selection. Everyone will be welcome to participate in the conversation with the Book Discussion Group for Adults, which will take place September 21st at Mary Cheney. Books are available at the Library. A film showing of the documentary 'Man on Wire' will be held at the Whiton Branch on September 23rd (Read the book to discover the relationship!). MPL Supports The Wall that Heals
In addition to the One Book, One Village event, the library will be showing the Academy Award-‐winning documentary, 'Maya Lin: a strong, clear vision', revealing the controversial origins of the original memorial wall in Washington, D.C. New “Take Me Home Totes”
Looking to do something different this weekend? Grab a Take Me Home Tote! Maybe it’s your turn to plan a Girls Weekend In and you are completely stumped as to what to pick. Or your significant other has left it up to you to decide what your plans are for the weekend. For all those times when you can’t decide what you want to do, or have just plain run out of ideas or disposable income, head over to the library! Manchester Public Library now carries Take Me Home Totes, a weekend experience bag filled with all kinds of awesome materials. Each bag has a very distinct theme and the contents of the bags reflect that, including "The 80s," "Go Team!", "Un-Wine-ed," and "Chuck Norris!" Whatever you’re in the mood for, we have a bag for that! Most Take Me Home Totes contains at least: *One book based on the theme. *One cookbook with recipes and food ideas related to the time or place. And who doesn’t love to eat? *One DVD to watch and relax after a long week. *One CD to play while you are cooking, or after dinner and the movie/show has not started yet. Go ahead. Enjoy. On us. 26th at 2:30 pm for birthday cake, library tours, a scavenger hunt,

Mary Cheney by our own librarian, Jenn Bartlett! No

Saturday afternoons: September 19th 2PM: Cheney Cinema presents Furious 7. (Rated PG-13 for violence, language, and suggestive content). October 17th 2PM: Cheney Cinema presents: Avengers: Age Of Ultron. (Rated PG-13 for violence and language). Saturday afternoon, October 10th: Silk City Board Game Group has its first meeting! For ages 18 and up of all board gaming levels and expertise. We'll have on hand to demo: Dominion, 1775: Rebellion, and Medieval Academy. Light refreshments will be served. 2-4:30. Thursday evenings: September 3rd 7PM: MPL’s newest book group, Keeping It Classy, focuses on classic works of literature. The first book that they will be discussing is Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf. Copies of the book are available for checkout in the lobby on the fireplace mantel and at Whiton.
