In 1899, New York Citygot its news from an army ofragged orphans and run-aways called newsies.

One homeless New YorkCity newsboy Jack Kelly(Joseph Goedtke) befriendstwo newcomers to his trade,Davey (Kyle McKeown) andLes (Addie Hoffmann), whoalso dream of a better life farfrom the hardship of thestreets.

However, when publisherJoseph Pulitzer (Jacob Lux)raises distribution prices atthe newsies’ expense, mak-ing it harder for the youngnewspaper salesmen to makea buck, the boys go on strikeand Jack finds a cause forwhich to fight.

With the help of the beau-tiful female reporter Kather-ine Plumber (Gabby Helget),all of New York City soonrecognizes the power of the“little man”. Newsies is

based on the true story of the1899 newsboys’ strike.

Directed by Geri Pelzeland choreographed by GarySassenberg this fast-paced,entertaining show, filled withoutstanding musical numbersand incredible dance per-formances, will bring youstraight into Jack’s world of1899 New York, and you justmay never want to leave!

Pelzel said she took about35 students to see “Newsies”at the Chanhassen DinnerTheater last spring.

“After seeing the stu-dents’ excitement for theshow and assessing the realtalent I had to work with thisyear, I knew this was ouryear to tackle this musical,”Pelzel said.

Advanced tickets can bepurchased by calling the boxoffice at 507-794-4121 8a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondaythrough Friday. There willalso be generaladmission/walk-in ticketsavailable at all three per-formances.
