Analyzer bus system: Used to connect analyzers based on gas chromatograph in thefield to a network. The system has a total redundant configuration for safety.
GCAS (Analyzer Server): The monitor/control center for the entire network. It alsosaves necessary data automatically. Moreover it joints with DCS for serial communica-tion and digital output, etc.
ASMT (Analyzer Server Maintenance Terminal): When this package software isinstalled on an ordinary personal computer, the computer acts as a human interfacededicated to this system. The operator can thus operate gas chromatograph in the field from the computer viaGCAS.
GCIU (Interface Unit): The information of the field sensor except GC is input as theanalog data and can be monitor on ASMT and DCS by the analyzer bus.

GCHUB: The device which diverge the network is called HUB. One HUB can connectfour gas chromatographs or GCIU. HUB also can be used for the divergence the line.
UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply unit):This is the unit to protect the harddisk drive in GCAS from the accidental power down.

The system must be unpacked and installed in the correct place. The piping for the purging air must be completed. The wiring for the power supply and others must be completed.
Please read the following General Precautions, before installing and using the GCIU.
General Precautions
CAUTION:(1) Take great care when carrying and installing (piping-wiring) the GCIU. The
GCIU must be carried and installed very carefully (including piping andwiring) by more than one person (at least three people are recommended).
(2) Use the GCIU within the range of your purchase specifications.Yokogawa assumes no responsibility for problems resulting from use by thecustomer outside the purchase specifications.

(3) Since the GCIU is precision instrument, take care when handling not to joltof knock them.
(4) If the GCIU needs to be modified or repaired, please contact your nearestYokogawa representative. Yokogawa assumes no responsibility for resultswhere the customer or any third party has attempted to modify or repair theseproducts.
IMPORTANT(1) Read the attached instruction manual before operating the GCIU
(2) The instruments must be installed and operated according to the instructionmanual, approved drawings, and operation data.
(3) Do not hesitate to ask Yokogawa to modify or repair the instrument.Yokogawa assumes no responsibility for defects resulting frommodification or repair by the customer or unauthorized manufactures.
(4) Wiring worksWhen performing wiring, always using the sealing fittings and flameproof pack-ing adapter.
(5) Maintenande and RepairThe instrument modification or parts replacement by other than authorizedrepresentative of Yokogawa Electric Corporation is prohibited.
Precautions Against Electrostatic ProblemsThe GCIU uses numerous IC components. When handling cards with IC componentsmounted on them for maintenance or setting changes, take full precautions againstelectrostatic problems.
These precautions are summarized below.
(a)When storing or carrying cards, enclose them in a conductive bag or antistaticbag. (Cards as shipped by Yokogawa are enclosed in a conductive bag orantistatic bag labeled with cautions against electrostatic problems.)
(b)Whenever mounting or demounting cards into or from a product, wear a wrist strapgrounded via a 1 MΩ resistance. Connect the wrist strap to any ground terminalnear the ground wire or to any unpainted part of the grounded frame.

Cautions
CAUTIONS OF USING EXPLOSION-PROTECTION INSTRUMENTSThe GCIU is designed to protect against explosion. When GCIU is used in ahazardous area, observe the following precautions.
(1) Kinds of explosion protection
CENELEC (ATEXdirective) : EExpd IIB+H2 T4
(2) Precautions for explosion-proof section
When handling the thread on the cover, note the following to avoid damaging thethread since they cannot be repaired.
1. When removing the cover, take care not to let the thread become contami-nated by dirt or foreign matter.
2. When installing the cover, tighten the cover by hand; never use tools.
3. Since the thread are coated with MOLYKOTE, do not lubricate them.
(3) Installation site and environment
The GCIU specifications allow it to be used in hazardous areas as defined by Zone1. However, never install the analyzer in an area where the density of explosive gaspersists for a long time.
(4) Wiring works
When performing wiring, always use the flame-proof packing adapter.

Cautions
(5) Maintenance and checks
If any of the following damage occurs, inform a Yokogawa sales representative or the
Yokogawa sales division
1. If the screws securing the GCIU (explosion-proof construction) are damaged
2. If the exterior of the enclosures are damaged
3. If packings are cracked or conspicuously deformed
(6) Replacing parts
Always use parts specified by Yokogawa when replacing parts, for replacement, refer to section of “Procedure for Replacing Parts”.
(7) Operation
Warning:
* GCIU shall not be opened unless the area is known to be nonhazardous, orunless all devices within have been de-energized.
<CENELEC>
* Only trained persons may use this instrument in a hazardous location.
* Do not open when energized.
Take care not to generate mechanical spark when access to the instrument andperipheral devices in hazardous locations.
(8) Maintenance and Repair
* The instrument modification or parts replacement by other than authorizedrepresentative of Yokogawa Electric Corporation is prohibited and will void theapproval of CENELEC certification.

2.2 Wiring
2.2.1 General Cautions on Wiring
CAUTION
• Lay the signal wiring and electrical wiring inseparate conduit pipes or duct, respectively.
• Make independent grounding having a grounding resistance of 100 Ω or less.
NOTE
The door is locked by special tool. In the case of opening the door, please use the attached tool. The cover is locked by special screw. In the case of opening thecover, please use the Hexagonal Wrench attached.
CAUTION
Be sure to lock the door using the tool attached after opening thedoor.Be sure to lock the cover with the special screw using theHexagonal Wrench attached after replacing the cover as it was.
2.2.2 Kinds of WiringThe following kinds of wiring are required for GCIU.
The wiring required varies with the specification.
(A) Electrical wiring for power circuit
(B) Gounding circuit
(C) Analyzer Bus (Twisted P air cab le)
(D) Signal lines
CAUTION
This product complies with CE marking.Where a performance suit for CE marking is necessary, thefollowing wiring procedure is necessary.1. Install an external switch or circuit breaker to the power supplyof the equipment.
2. Use an external switch or circuit breaker rated 5A andconforms to IEC 947-1 or IEC 947-3.
3. It is recommended that the external switch or circuit breaker bemounted in the same room as the equipment.
4. The external switch or circuit breaker should be installed withinthe reach of the operator, and marked as the power supplyswitch of this equipment.

2.3 Piping
2.3.1 General Notes on Piping Work(1) Use an anti-corrosion material for the pipes and pipe fittings.
(2) Use pipes and pipe fittings free of interior contamination from grease, oil or othersubstances. Before connecting those piped, completely air-purge their interiors.
(3) Carefully connect the pipes so that there is no leakage from the pipe connectionssuch as the joints.
(4) Use filters or other appropriate pipe fittings to prevent dust, moisture, or otherforeign matter fr om getting inseide the anal yzer.
2.3.2 Type of PipingThe type of piping is purge air pipe.
2.3.3 Piping Connection• These are the pipes for supplying air to the GCIU for purging the inside of the
electr onics section. Usuall y an air pressure of 350kP a or more is required. Thus, use general instrument air as the air supply and do the pipung to the GCIUthrough a pressure regulator fr om the air suppl y.Refer to Figure 2.4 (External Dimensions).
• Use piping of O.D. 1/4 inch stainless steel treated for oil-inhabition.
