III- Mission statements:
To provide basic and advanced scientific principles of internal medicine practice for
medical students, residents and other physician.
To promote and advance general and subspecialty knowledge in the science of internal
medicine to train undergraduate to be competent to deal efficiently, effectively with
common and urgent problem of patients.
To develop a qualified medical student in the field of internal medicine able to provide
safe and high quality medical care services at primary, secondary and tertiary health care.
To offer optimum care for patient at ambulatory, inpatient and specialist level, in
addition to stress balanced acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes related to the
vision.
To encourage infusion of scientific thinking in learning and research endeavors in
clinical practice and pursuit of excellence in research related to national and international
health problem.

2.Objectives of the course:
Is enable the under graduate to possess the following: -1-To possess adequate knowledge about the human body in health and disease and of various causes and basic mechanisms underlying diseases. 2- To develop an appropriate knowledge and skills and attitude necessary for current clinical practice to become competent in diagnosis, differential diagnosis and the ability to formulate an appropriate management of the common Internal Medicine health problems. 3-To develop appropriate knowledge and skills to formulate and carry out (wherever possible) an appropriate, preventive and curative role. 4-To be able to recognize and manage conditions that require urgent intervention and to apply appropriate preventive measures for them. 5-To develop positive attitude of continuous medical education and promotion of professional skills and research capabilities.

A. knowledge and understanding:
By the end of this course, all the students will acquire knowledge to: A1. Demonstrate the basis of genetics and its influence on diseases. A2. Identify the unique features of immunity and pathogenesis of diseases. A3. Describe the causes, pathogens and clinical feature of the common internal medicine problems. A4. Cite the management priorities for different Internal Medicine Conditions. A5. Recognize the art of nutrition and diseases of malnutrition A6. Describe the clinical manifestations, and differential diagnosis of common internal medicine diseases. A7. Describe appropriate diagnosis with identifying of the common diagnostic proceduresin terms of scientific base.A 8. Identify basics of ethics, medico legal aspects of health problems, mal practice commonmedicalerrors. A9. Apply knowledge and understanding of the scientific thinking and research methodologies.A10. Recognition of different data resources and it is use in internal medicine practice and research.
B. Intellectual skills:
By the end of the course the student will be able to: B1. Integrate basic science with clinical careB2. Make decisions regarding common clinical situations using appropriate problem solving skills.B3. Design assessment and management of common problems that present in adults.B4. Interpretation of common diagnostic studies (eg. laboratory and radiology) and proper choice among them according to the situation.B5. Integrate the results of history, physical and laboratory test findings into a meaningful diagnostic formulation.B6. Detect the life threatening situations and manage according or refer. B7. Classify factors that place individuals at risk for disease or injury, to determine strategies for appropriate response. B8. Retrieve, analyze, and evaluate relevant and current data from literature, using information technologies and library resources, in order to help solve clinical problem based onscientific evidence (EBM). B9. Involvement into research and scientific methods through: a. Formulation of research questions that is pertinent to medicine. b. Recognition of the importance of precision in collecting, analyzing and interpreting medical data.
C. Professional skills:
By the end of the course the student will be able to: C1. Collect relevant and focus history related to the medical problem. C2. Perform clinical examination of different systems orderly, fluently and

Record and analyze the data in standard and concise format (Anatomical, pathological and functional diagnosis) of different system diseases. C4. Make diagnostic and therapeutic decisions based on clinical judgment and after formulation of the problems from the above information. C5. Choose the appropriate laboratory data as well as the imaging (radiological) according to the clinical condition. C6. Interpret different diagnostic tools such as radiological, ECG, and other laboratory investigations and how to implement these data in the diagnosis, management and follow up of cases.C7. Construct appropriate management strategies for patients with common diseases, both acute and chronic medical conditions.C8. Follow up of all problems in professional way.C9. Describe prevention of diseases, immunization, control, isolation and chemoprophylaxis in cases of infectious diseases.C10. Recognize criteria of life threatening conditions in adults and to initiate appropriate management.C11. Apply safety and infection control measures during practice. C12. Perform the techniques of basic practical skills including resuscitation and demonstrate Competency in basic and advanced life support measures. C13. I. Lecture halls: In the main l ibrary building of
the El- Hussein Hospital and Sayed Galal
Hospital (11 t h floor), equipped with writ ing
