CHARLEVILLE’S KeithHanley, who was lastnight declared The Voiceof Ireland, has dedicatedhis win to the children heworks with.

Keith said he owed it all tostudents of the Holy FamilySchool near his home, where heteaches hip hop dancing to chil-dren with special needs.

After six rounds of blind au-ditions, four battle shows andseven live shows from Dublin’sHelix Theatre, Keith came topof the public vote to win andsecure a €100,000 recordingcontract with Universal Ire-land.

The 19-year-old said: “I knowI probably sound like a brokenrecord but it really is down tothe kids. It was from themthat I learned the truevalue of music andthe potential ithas to bringpeople out ofthemselves. I’mreally lookingforward togoing home andgetting theirfeedback. TRIBUTES have been pouringin for former Minister of StateDick Barry, , who diedyesterday.

The 93-year-old Fermoyman was first elected to theDáil almost 60 years ago,when he won a by-election inCork East in June 1953 forFine Gael. He won eight elec-tions up to 1977 and was aJunior Minister for Health.

Mr Barry and his son, Mi-chael, ran an auctioneers firmin Fermoy, while his daughterMyra Barry followed her fatherinto the Dáil in 1979.

Current Fine Gael Cork EastTDs David Stanton and TomBarry paid tributes to Mr Barryand offered condolences to hisfamily. Deputy Stanton said: “Iremember as a young fellowhearing all about Dick Barryand how he was loved and ad-mired all over the constitu-ency.” Deputy Tom Barry said:“Dick was a gentleman with apowerful intellect who com-bined local and national polit-ics in a seamless fashion. Dickwas a good friend to me.”

Minister for AgricultureSimon Coveney said Mr Barryhad been an “enormously in-fluential figure in Fine Gael inCork.”
