Big Foot: This private museum that depicts the day-to-day life
of native Goans is a brainchild of Maendra Jocelino Araujo
Alvares. The museum consists of a replica of a typical Goan
village with miniature houses, a famous Goan music school
(Escola da Musica), fenny distillery and many more native
Goan artifacts.
A major attraction of this museum is a 14 meter sculpture of
Sant Mirabai built in just 30 days. The sculpture and its creator
Maendra Jocelino Araujo Alvares have made their way into the
‘Limca Book of Records’ for being the longest laterite sculpture
in India. One more interesting fact is this museum is also called
as Big Foot, for a footprint on a rock that is worshipped by the
people here. Based on the name there is a Big Foot dance floor,
Big Foot restaurant, Big Foot cross and a spring known as Boca
da Vaca that has medicinal values.
Goa Chitra: This museum has the largest collection-over 4000
artefacts-focusing on Goa's traditional agrarian technology
and lifestyle.
Goa Chitra is based in the coastal Goan village of Benaulim. It
was founded and is run (2010) by the artist-curator-restorer
Victor-Hugo Gomes. TimeOut Mumbai has described the
museum as "[o]ne of Goa's most charming attractions" and adds
that "this little rural complex houses thousands of traditional
implements, vessels and tools that evolved over centuries in the
agrarian heartland of Goa in the service of farming and other
traditional trades".
