Welcome to Snetterton for MSVR’s
second visit in as many weeks!
Last weekend marked the long-awaited restart of motorsport activity in 2020 in the wake of the global COVID-19 crisis. In line with both government
and Motorsport UK guidelines, both MSV and MSVR have put in place a raft of measures to minimise the risk of resuming our sporting activities, and these are being constantly reviewed as the situation evolves. More information and advice can be found later in this digital event programme and you will also find new signage and facilities around the site. Your cooperation in adhering to these new policies is appreciated – and, indeed, vital – if we are to continue running events for the sport we all love.
This weekend’s headline series is the fabulous GT Cup Championship. Home to a whole host of GT-spec machinery, the championship is split across six groups based on performance, with fierce battles up and down the field. A 25 minute sprint and a 50 minute pit stop race each day will provide plenty of opportunity for the drivers to test these awesome machines around the fast Snetterton 300 layout.
Joining MSVR in 2020 is the unique Sports 2000 Championship. One of the fastest sports car championships in UK, it is organised by the SRCC who pride themselves on high driving standards, a friendly atmosphere and exciting racing. Expect some very fast lap times from these Ford-powered racers.
MSVR’s own F3 Cup championship is home to close-to-contemporary Formula 3 machinery and arguably offers the fastest racing at club level in the country. A number of last year’s protagonists return for the truncated 2020 season so the action will undoubtedly pick up right where it left off last year!
The 7 Race Series acquires championship status in 2020 and arrives with a burgeoning grid of Caterham 7 race cars. Another friendly paddock with strictly enforced behaviour on circuit, provides close competition throughout.
The MSVR Elise Trophy continues its return to form as the grid increases, with the championship enjoying a feature-length 45 minute race this weekend at its ‘home’ circuit just a few miles from the Lotus factory in Hethel.
The Zig Zag Lighting Heritage Formula Ford Championship combines forces with the Champion of Brands – or rather, Champion of Snetterton this weekend! – series to bring classic Formula Ford single-seater action to Norfolk. Just one 20 minute race on Sunday means the drivers can’t afford to make any mistakes on this technical circuit.
Our guests this weekend are a brace of Porsche championships: Firstly we are excited to host the opening round of the brand new Porsche Sprint Challenge GB - organised by Porsche Motorsport GB, this exciting venture is home to the stunning 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport and becomes the perfect step between the Porsche Classic Boxster Cup and the BTCC-supporting Porsche Carrera Cup GB.
Meanwhile, the Petro-Canada Lubricants Porsche Club Championship is open to recent Porsche models using standard engines, suspension and gearboxes, based on power-to-weight ratio to provide a competitive playing field for all.
Motorsport in the UK simply couldn’t happen without the invaluable work of the many volunteer marshals up and down the country. The “orange army” give up their time to ensure we can put on these events and they keep the drivers safe. I would like to offer the first thanks of many to all the marshals and volunteer officials for their help this weekend. As a thank you, one lucky marshal will win a PalmerSport Formula 3000 drive at MSV’s Bedford Autodrome.
I hope you enjoy the racing this weekend and look forward to seeing you again when we return to Snetterton on 26 September with another selection of our club series and championships. For live timing, all the latest news and our full calendar please visit the MSVR website at www.msvracing.com.
