Kit 5713 - Page 16
The Convair B-58 Hustler was one of the most unique aircraft in military service. Not only is it strikingly different in appearance, but it is the fastest bomber in the Strategic Air Command history. It set several interna-tional speed records, some still standing today. "Ginger" was one of the operational test vehi-cles, based at Edwards Airforce Base, CA. On October 15, 1959, it became the first plane to sustain Mach 2 flight, flying between Seattle, Washington and Carswell AFB, in Texas, in 70 minutes, averaging nearly 1,320 mph. In October 1963, "Greased Lightning", flew from Tokyo to London in 8 hours, 35 min-utes, averaging 938 mph. However, on the last leg, one of the afterburners failed, reducing it's overall speed. It is one of the few survivingHustlers, and is now on permanent display at the SAC museum in Ashland, Nebraska. Your Revell model has a detailed cock-pit showing unique pilot ejection pod, an optional standard fuel/weapons pod or extra capacity fuel/weapons pod and four nucle-ar bombs and authentic insignia decals.
