Celebrating Our 30th Anniversary Season!
• the Philharmonic’s 30th season, • an amazing new world-class handmade Shigeru Kawai
grand piano given to The Phil to share with the community by Enkei America, Inc., an active civic partner also celebrating 30 years in Columbus, and
• an extraordinary gift from the Haddad Foundation of the building in which we have our offi ces and teaching facilities at 315 Franklin Street!
Your award-winning professional orchestra has been garnering rave reviews, The Phil’s education programs are literally changing the lives of thousands of children and adults in the Columbus area, and our relatively new Philharmonic Cabaret at The Commons series is the talk of the town. We are grateful to have become such an integral part of the fabric of our community, making a signifi cant difference in so many ways.
Our 2016-17 season of celebration features our new piano throughout the season. There will be 3 gifted concert pianists: • Sean Chen, a brilliant, young, multiple prize-winning, rising
star – including the Van Cliburn Competition Crystal award,• Di Wu, one of our favorite guests in Columbus and also
a Van Cliburn prize winner, who will be performing both Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and the brilliant Ravel G Major Concerto, and
• Elliot Wuu, a phenomenal teenager who has already won a major American competition!
And, drumroll please, acclaimed Broadway and Cabaretstar Ann Hampton Callaway, an amazing singer, songwriter, pianist, actor, and entertainer, joins us as our JohnsonDistinguished Guest Artist in October! Come see what all the excitement is about. Buy your tickets today. This is a season programmed for everyone. Ann Hampton Callaway is SO much fun! A multiplatinum-selling singer, she is also a composer, lyricist, pianist, and actor. Come hear her create a completely new song from words you provide during the concert!
After 20 years spent playing at First Christian Church, Dan McKinley reunites with “his buddy” – the great Aeolian-Skinner organ. The Rütti concerto is an extraordinary blend of hair-raising brilliance, popsy percussion, and toe-tapping rhythms. You’ll hear this great Columbus organ in an entirely new way!
Sean Chen ROCKS IT as he performs “Rach 3” featured in the fi lm Shine. Tchaikovsky’s powerful Symphony No. 6 is fi lled with raw emotion and gorgeous melodies.

Timothy Noble is one of the greatest Metropolitan Opera singers of our generation. His stirring baritone vocals will echo as he performs the title role in Mendelssohn’s great masterpiece, Elijah.
The Wright Brothers will sing their own country-fresh arrangements of Winter Wonderland, Jingle Bell Rock, Ricky Skaggs’ New Star Shining, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, and a southern trip via pedal steel guitar to Christmas Island. Our own CICC joins them in the celebration.

“Cabaret is a new concept for Columbus, a different kind of performance that breaks the invisible barrier that is perceived to
separate the performer from the audience […] performers not only introduce their
songs, but tell stories behind them.”
