Subj: LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION IN CASE OF CORPORAL CHRISTPOHER A. BELLO

1. This letter of recommendation is forwarded with pleasure. I worked withChris for 15 months as his company commander. During this time hedistinguished himself by his attitude and actions, demonstrating qualityleadership, professional ability, and devotion to the Marines of LimaCompany. In garrison, field training, and combat environments he was a keymember of the leadership team in the Lima Company Headquarters, bringingvaluable experience, a determined work ethic, and a positive attitudethroughout a chaotic and accelerated operational tempo.

2. Throughout pre-deployment training, Chris was central in preparing theCompany administratively for forward deployment in support of major combatoperations. As the Company Clerk, he was responsible for every facet ofadministration in the Company to include maintenance and accountability ofall personnel records for the 200-plus Marines in the Company, managingvolumes of data contained in each of their individual records, trainingrecords, and records of emergency data, and tracking their eligibility andqualifications for promotion. His intelligence and keen ability to multi-task were critical in balancing the litany of administrative requirementsacross the Company with the considerable demands of pre-deployment training. His efforts were critical in streamlining Company tracking and reportingprocedures, facilitating quick and timely personnel management decisions forthe Company leadership, and greatly enhanced the overall efficiency andeffectiveness of Company operations. His diligence and thorough attention todetail throughout the Company's accelerated pre-deployment training programwere an integral part of preparing the Company to deploy to Afghanistan andproved invaluable in ensuring the Company's smooth transition into combatoperations.

3. When the company deployed in January 2010 to Helmand Province,Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Chris was ready for anyand all challenges. In addition to continuing his outstanding performancewith his administrative duties, he excelled in a variety of other rolesdirectly supporting the Company's counterinsurgency operations. Frompersonal security details to detainee operations to serving as a radiooperator in the Company Command Post, Chris demonstrated incredibleversatility, work ethic, courage and unselfishness in an intenselychallenging and austere environment. Always observant and attuned to thecomplexities of the battlespace, he demonstrated sound decision-making atevery turn and never wavered or complained regardless of the task he wasgiven. Throughout the deployment, he consistently demonstrated a level ofintell~gence, reliability, hard work and dedication to the Marines in theCompany that outshined his peers and made him one of the "go-to" guys in theCompany Headquarters.
