SECOND circular
Dear colleagues:
We are pleased to invite you to the XXI Argentine Geological
Congress. Chubut province hosted the Third Argentine Geological
Journeys during 1966 in Comodoro Rivadavia. In this opportunity,
more than half a century later, Puerto Madryn will be hosting the
most important Argentine scientific-technical event devoted to the
advances in knowledge of geosciences. The Congress will be held
from 21th to 25th September 2020 by the Atlantic coast, in the
heart of the Argentinean Patagonia, offering unequaled opportuni-
ties to enjoy the geology in an international touristic frame. Under
the subject “Geology and development, challenges of the XXI
century”, we propose to address ideas related to the integral
comprehension of the natural environment to optimize its use
within a socio-cultural frame. The geologic themes will include four
days of technical presentations and plenary talks, as well as courses
and field trips (held before, within, and after the congress). All
these activities could be combined with different gastronomic and
touristic offers such as the amazing Southern Right Whale wat-
ching.
We look forward to have you enjoying the argentine Patagonia
among friends and colleagues
Sincerely,
Organizing Committee

The lounges of the Rayentray hotel, as well as the auditoriums of
CENPAT and UNPSJB were chosen to guarantee the quality and com-
fort of the participants and will promote a warm atmosphere of camara-
derie that could be optimized during the coffee breaks. The dimensions
of the lounges are appropriate for all types of activities, allowing plenary
conferences with massive assistance, as well as specific meetings of
smaller groups. The three locations are next to each other, making
easier the mobility of attendants (Fig. 1). The panoramic view of the
ocean from all buildings and the warm weather will give an extraordi-
nary scenery favoring the attendance of participants to the given confe-
rences in each seat.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
POST CONGRESS FIELD TRIPS
During the Congress, the Relatorio of the Chubut province will be
presented. It will consist in a special volume specially devoted to the
geology and the natural resources of Chubut, elaborated by the
most outstanding specialists of each topic integrating the Relatorio.
Furthermore, the new geological Map of the province of Chubut,
done by SEGEMAR, will also be presented.
RELATORIO AND CHUBUT GEOLOGICAL MAP
In the framework of the Argentinian Geological Congress pre- and
intra-congress courses will be carried out, handled by outstanding
specialists in each topic. The respective programs, duration, enroll-
ment modality, costs and payment may be consulted in the Con-
gress website soon.
COURSES
Through the development of the Argentinian Geological Congress,
cultural and recreational activities can be expected for all Congress
assistants and their companions. Different options of touristic excur-
sions will also be available. During the week of the congress, the
following activities can be expected: Ice breaker, closing dinner and
other activities that will be confirmed in next communications.,
The presentation of several books related to geological subjects by
their authors is expected.
BOOK PRESENTATIONS
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
This Symposium, which already constitutes a traditional meeting in
Geological Congresses, sets to bring viticulture and the scientific
community together, showing the relationship between the geologi-
cal characteristics of argentine terroirs and their wines. “Terroir” is a
wide concept that, based on the soil and other variables, explains
why it is that there is a unique and special wine. While Chubut wines
are tasted, some investigations that shed some light on speculations
confirming knowledge and debunking myths will be shared. Coordi-
nator: Luis Fontana.
