Morgan, which caused him to fall breaking his hip.After being taken into police custody, but not charged,
Morgan was transported to Oakville-Trafalgar MemorialHospital (OTMH) where he was treated for his arm injuryand then released.
Morgan’s broken hip went undiscovered until he wasreadmitted to hospital shortly afterwards. He died in hospi-tal on May 4.
The SIU says there is no clear evidence to link Morgan’sdeath to the Nov. 25 incident.
MacKenzie criticized the SIU release for not reflectingthe circumstances faced by the officers that morning. Hesaid it not say that Morgan was armed.
“It failed to mention the fact that the individual wasbrandishing large knives at the time the use of force wasemployed,” he said. “Two very large knives.”
A spokesperson for the Morgan family, who did not wishto be identified, issued the following statement.
“Our family is still grieving the loss of our father who wasa wonderful family man and loving husband. He faced thechallenges of Parkinson’s disease with courage and dignityfor the past 10 years of his life. We miss him terribly.”
Halton Police Chief Gary Crowell is standing by his offi-cers.
“Every day members of our service make difficult deci-sions while in the course of their duties. I remain confidentin the abilities and judgement of our tactical unit,” he said.
The three officers have been reassigned to the RegionalCriminal Investigation Unit where they remain on activeduty.
The officers will appear in a Milton court on May 28 toanswer the charges.
