Technical Lecture & Inauguration of Robotics & Automation Society
A meeting in association with M/s. Larsen & Toubro Ltd., ECC Division, Chennai was arranged
on 30th Oct 2010 at Hotel GRT Radisson along with the Inauguration of Robotics & Automation
Society. The IEEE – Robotics & Automation society was formally inaugurated by Dr. T.
Thyagarajan, Chairman, IEEE – Madras Section. In his addressed, he highlighted the advantages
of membership in the society. Er. S. Rajavel, Chairman, IEEE – Industry Applications Society
(Madras Chapter) and Executive Vice President, M/s. Larsen & Toubro Ltd, Chennai Introduced
the guest speaker and also spoke about the salient features of Industry Applications Society. Er.
S. Malakar, Head – IT Systems, M/s. Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Delhi International Airport Ltd.,
delivered a presentation on “AIRPORT IT SYSTEMS” and he explained about various IT
systems synchronizing the function of Airport. It was a highly educative presentation. Dr. G. V.
Rao, Chairman, IEEE – Robotics & Automation Society (Madras Chapter) gave an excellent
insight into Robots, their applications in various areas and also briefly highlighted about the
history on evolution of Robots. His talk was highly appreciated. The talk was followed by a
video presentation on Robots. A total of 85 professional engineers from Industries, Educational
& Research Institutions, and Consulting Organisations participated in this technical program.

Presentation on IEEE members benefits at NEC
Robotics, artificial Intelligence St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering, Chunkankadai, Nagarcoil,
Tamilnadu State, India. Total no of participants 150 members including Principal, Dirictor, IEEE
Student coordinators and IEEE Student members. Technical lecture on Robotics and Automation
and addressed introduction to robotics. Presentation was briefed about robotics, necessity of
robots, difference between robotics and artificial intelligence, and its application, types of robots,
evaluation and its hardware. Applications of the in the area of defence research like big-dog,
cheetah and humanoid atlas was discussed . Highlighted an introduction to the laparo-simulator
and its working principles. A video presentation was shown about the use of laparo-simulator
modules and to explain about the robotic surgery implementation in the field of medical
application. Participants were given hands on training of the laparo-simulator and its exercises, to
realise the robotic design and its implications. Group discussion to express the participant’s was
conducted.

The technical lecture session was presented by Mr. P A Manoharan, which was presented on
robotics, necessity of robots, difference between robotics and artificial intelligence, and its
application, types of robots, evaluation and its hardware. The Robotics development, global trends
and its applications are projected as short videos of robot like big-dog, cheetah and humanoid

15.03.2013The workshop titled “Robot and its Techniques of Autonomous Vehicle Design”,
This workshop was focussed on to an Unmanned ground vehicle, which is gaining importance to
support human in the way of providing accidents free transport system. Robotic-Car was quite
expensive with the use of Global Position Sensor (GPS) and 3D sensors. Research team has
succeeded to have an effective cost reduction by using inexpensive cameras and lasers technique.
Robotics & its modules used in Automotive Applications like aerospace, unmanned vehicle,
autonomous underwater vehicle were explained. Young minds have tremendous and novel ideas,
which can have better motivation and contribute more in the robotic field by understanding these
basic concepts of workshop. Course Contents 1. Simple Robots Line follower robot, Obstacle

has been inaugurated on 29.09.2012. We have invited the chief guest Mr. P. A. Manoharan,

1. Kings College of Engineering Workshop on ROBOTICS, IEEE Student Branch and R&D
Section of our college organized a “Workshop on Robotics” to the UG-PG students of various
institutions and EEE, ECE students of on 13th
February, 2015. 54 students participated from
various institutions. Dr. P.A.Manoharan and delivered inaugurated the program and gave a
special talk on “Robotics”. Around 80 participants benefitted.
2. St. Joseph’s College Of Engineering,21st February 2015, Department of Electrical and
Electronics Engineering organised inauguration of Student Branch Chapter, IAS society, RAS
society, PELS society, WIE affinity group. Technical talk by Dr. P. A. Manoharan titled
“current trend in Robotics and Automation” . 11.30 Hrs. – 12.45 Hrs. Around 100 student

3. Karpagam College of Engineering, Coimbatore, International Conference titled

8. Velammal Engineering College INNOWIZ 2K15 – A national level tech carnival was
organized on 29th
August 2015, by the Department of ECE. The symposium was inaugurated
by the Chief Guest Dr. P. A. Manoharan, chairman of robotics and automation society, IEEE

Startup Conclave 2016
The Startup Conclave 2016 organized by Karpagam Innovation Centre (KIC) under the
aegis of Karpagam College of Engineering (KCE), Coimbatore is an initiative by the
engineering community to support and be a part to realize our Prime Minister Mr.
Narendra Modi’s dream projects namely Startup India, Standup India, Make in India and

Private Limited. On the warm morning, Dr. C.Gnana Kousalya, Head of the Department,
Electronics and Communication Engineering, welcomed the gathering, followed by Dr.
P.A.Manoharan, Robotics & Automation Society (Chair), IEEE Madras section who imparted
the importance of designing educational satellite. His awe-inspiring speech created awareness
about the need of microsatellite and its applications. Our Technical force, respected
Mr.Jagathalapratap.E, Manager-Technical Marketing and Mr. Bharatha Raja.M, Senior
Engineer, Hardware Design and Development, Data Patterns (India) Private Limited, team
members elaborated about the features of microsatellite desiging,manufacturing difficulty,
possibilities of getting project proposal from various agencies like DRDO ,DSR..,Finally to
wind up the session, T.Siva,Assistant Professor, Department of ECE proposed the vote of
thanks.
INAGURATION OF IEEE RAS, St. Joseph’s Institute of Technology, Electronics and Communication
Engineering, 28/7/16 at 10.00 AM
St. Joseph’s Institute of Technology IEEE RAS organized by Dr. C. Gnana Kousalya, Prof in
ECE Department & HOD, inaugurated on 28.07.2016 at 10.30 AM. Dr. P. Ravichandran,
Principal, dignified the event. Chief guest Dr. P. A. Manoharan, Robotics & Automation Society
(Chair), Mr. G. S. Uthyakumar, Secretary and Mr. Balaj Raja, Execom member, of RAS were
participated and graced the occasion. Dr. P. A. Manoharan, gave a technical presentation on
“Robotics and Automation”.
Inaguration of CS and RAS Chapter Jeppiaar Institute of Technology
The grand Inauguration of IEEE CS and RAS chapter in Jeppiaar Institute of
Technology is started at 11.00 am on 08-08-2016, with the IEEE Code of Ethics
where the IEEE Computer Society and Robotics and Automation members took
the oath. It is then followed by lightening of kuthuvilaku by our Director Dr. N.
Marie Wilson and the Chief Guest Dr. P. A. Manoharan, Chairman (Robotics &
Automation Society) followed with a technical presentation on “Robotics and its
Applications”.
VINAYAKA MISSIONS UNIVERSITY, AARUPADAI VEEDU INSTITUTE OF
TECHNOLOGY , PAIYANOOR
The EEE department students association, The Renewable Energy Club and The
Robotics Club in the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of
Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology (AVIT) was inaugurated on 12.8.2016 at
10.30 AM by Dr. P. A. Manoharan, Technical Officer “C”, DRDO, Chennai. The
welcome address was presented by Prof. P.Rajasekaran, HOD / EEE. The
Presidential address was delivered by the Dr.S. Suyambazhahan, Principal, AVIT.
Student Office bearers for the EEE association and both the renewable energy and
robotics clubs were introduced. During the Inaugural address the guest of the
occasion Dr. P. A. Manoharan emphasized on the importance of advanced
technologies in the present era. He also gave a detailed lecture on the topic “
Vision Based Robotic Automation”. The session was very interactive. The
Program was coordinated by Ms .J.Suganthi , Asst. Prof. (II) / EEE.
