We are especially grateful and appreciative of the many volunteers and sponsors who helped make this year’s Lady Spartans program happen. We also would like to express our thanks for the student and community support we have grown accustomed to over the years. You have helped to make it a truly home court advantage each and every time we step on the floor! We hope you will appreciate the hardworking, fast-paced, energetic style of basketball we play. Skyline Girls Basketball enters the 2012-2013 campaign coming off a KingCo Crest Division Championship and a State Tournament berth the prior year. In total, we have featured an outstanding two-year run of success. This season we will be tasked with replacing four talented seniors, three of which were starters on last year’s team. Two of those seniors, Megan Wiedeman and Allie Wyszynski, have continued their basketball careers playing for Saint Martin’s and University of Pu-get Sound respectively. The bar has certainly been raised, but the 2012-2013 Lady
Spartans are up to the task and are excited at the opportunity to build on the recent success and traditions, while establishing and building their own identity and personality as team. This year’s team features seven returning varsity players and a talented group of newcomers. Seniors Haley Smith, Rachel Shim, Lacey Nicholson, and Lindsay Coutts provide a strong nucleus of leadership and experience. We also return three other junior players that saw considerable action last season including Shelby Kassuba, Bryn deVita, and Alex Daugherty that will be relied on to contribute even more this season. Newcomers to the team include Stella Mazzaferro & Alyssa Hawkinson (swing), freshman Cassidy Daugherty & Taylor McKerlich, and transfers Lusi Bainvialu (Peninsula) and Ali Mendezona (Issaquah). This group has bonded together quickly and are looking forward to tough competition in the KingCo Conference. The girls are very much aware of the talented teams that return this season and know they will have to work even harder to challenge for the Crown Division championship again. Most importantly, while striving for success on the court, we hope to represent ourselves and Skyline High with class and pride!

WELCOME TO 2012-13 SKYLINE LADY SPARTAN BASKETBALL
Thank you for your support of Skyline Athletics! As the Athletic Director at Skyline High School,
I have the pleasure of being around many great programs that do great things for our student-
athletes. So far this year, our varsity team GPA’s are an astounding 3.53. Those varsity teams
won two state championships, had a fifth place finish in state, and all programs are represented
in state competition. This is an unprecedented level of success that we are hoping to carry over
into this winter season. The success that I am most excited about is that I believe that we are
working towards our goals as an athletic department to give kids a great experience and teach
life lessons through sports.
Both of these goals are supported by the positive involvement of the community and, especially,
of parents. Thank you for being positive, supportive, and involved in the lives of our student
athletes. It is not always easy. By the nature of sports, there are plenty of ups and downs and challenges to work
through. It is those challenges that present opportunities for growth among our student-athletes. Thank you for sup-
porting your kids through it all. Feel free to introduce yourself or call me at any time. I look forward to a fantastic
season. GO SPARTANS! Ryan Gilbert Athletic Director

COACHING EXCELLENCE…….
Beginning his fifth season as Head Coach of the Skyline Girl’s Basketball team, Coach Bruns looks forward to the continuing development of the program and to the challenges of playing in the very difficult KingCo 4A league. This year’s talented seniors feature players with considerable Varsity action including Haley Smith and Rachel Shim who are 4-year letter winners. Their senior leadership combined with the work ethic, athleticism, and genuine desire to win will be leaned on heavily in order for us to have another successful season!
Prior to Skyline, Coach Bruns was the Varsity Assistant and JV coach at Redmond HS for 3+ years, coached the JV program at Woodinville for the 2003-2004 season, and is actively involved with the Puget Sound Flight AAU program. Greg comes from a family with a long history of coaching and playing experience. Brother, Rich, played at Simon FraserUniversity and coached the Lynnwood girls program to their only state appearance while sister, Shelly, played at Western Washington University (smart move) and coached for 12 years at Blanchet, Battle Ground, & Heritage High Schools and recently completed the Boston Marathon!
Coach Bruns grew up in Lynnwood and attended Lynnwood High School where he lettered in bas-ketball and baseball. After high school, Greg played college basketball at Western Washington University, received the Chuck Randall most inspirational player award his senior season, and
graduated with a degree in Business Administration. Once out of college Coach Bruns was an assistant coach in baseball and girls basketball at Lynnwood High before beginning a professional Credit Union industry career, currently serving as Chief Financial Officer, Verity Credit Union. Greg lives in Woodinville with his wife Cindi, and has twin boys Colton and Damon that graduated from Woodinville High School. Coach Bruns has a genuine passion for the game of basketball and loves to incorporate fun along with the fundamentals of hard work and discipline to get the most out his teams. Hobbies include, playing hoops, golf, softball, running (no marathons), and spending time with family in Chelan. This past October, Coach Bruns won a World Softball Championship in Las Vegas while playing for an elite team based out of Seattle called the Northwest Legends.
Coach Edwards is beginning her second year as Assistant Varsity Coach at Skyline. She started playing basketball at an early age and her love for the game has not changed. She grew up on the courts of Boys and Girls Clubs, Redmond Select, Puget Sound Flight and eventually a became 3 year varsity start-er at Redmond High School. While at Redmond, Coach Edwards was named to the KingCo 4A first team her junior and senior years. As a captain of the squad, she averaged 14.8 points per game and 11 rebounds per game. In 2006 she was named team MVP and most inspirational. She also currently holds the record for most points scored in a quarter (19 in 2005). Erika's basketball career continued, being a 4 year letter winner while on scholarship at Sacramento State University, fulfilling her dream of being a Division One athlete. As a sophomore, she led All Big Sky play in rebounding (6.8rpg) and three-point percentage (.408) and led the Hornets in steals. As a junior, she led the conference with 13 double-digit rebounding performances. Finally as a senior, Erika was named Second team All Big Sky Conference. She was second in the Big Sky in rebound-ing, led the Big Sky and tied the Sacramento State’s single-season record with 77 three-pointers. She ranked 14th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage at 42.8%. Erika was 96.8 percent from the free throw line and currently 2nd in school history for career free throw percentage at 80.9%. She finished her career as just the 3rd member of the school's 750 point, 750 rebound club, scoring 902
points and grabbing 785 rebounds. She ranks 3rd in school history with 168 career three-pointers and was named to the Women's Basket-ball All-Decade Team. She graduated Sacramento State with a degree in Criminal Justice. In her spare time, Coach Edwards enjoys being with her friends and family, is involved in her church and loves to travel. She looks forward to working with the team, working on their development and sharing her passion for coaching and playing basketball.
