Chowan University is a four-year co-education intuition. It is the second oldest of North Carolina's seven
Baptist Colleges. Chowan opened in 1848 as a four year college for women, Chowan Baptist Female institute.
It was renamed Chowan College in 1910, admitted male students in 1931, and established itself as one of the
leading junior colleges in the South in 1937. In 1992 the college returned to four year status. In April of 2006
Chowan President, Dr. M. Christopher White announced the changing of the institutions name from Chowan
College to Chowan University. The University fulfills its mission with a careful blend of both liberal arts and pro-
fessional courses. Recognizing that such a blend of knowledge and experience is particularly suited to the
needs of contemporary society. Chowan takes as priority the need to connect general education with
specialized education, theoretical learning with practical learning, and intellectual skills with vocational skills.
Set amid 300 acres of woodlands embracing beautiful Lake Vann, Chowan’s main entrance leads gracefully
around a college green to an antebellum mansion known as the McDowell Columns Building. Sixteen major
buildings of contemporary design provide air-conditioned residence, academic and recreational facilities. The
small-town university campus attracts students from at least twenty seven states and several countries each
year. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools fully accredits Chowan University to offer the
bachelor’s degree.

HEAD COACH ALLIE KOLEZYNSKI
As a student-athlete at Chowan, Kolezynski was a four year starter and captain on the softball team. She
was a three time All-CIAA selection, three time CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic Team, two-time NCCSIA
All-State Selection, Capital One Academic All-American, and Daktronic's All-Region team member. She also
currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the DII NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Kolezynski also received the 2012 Dr. M. Christopher White Presidential Athletics Excellence Award, and
was named Best All-Around Student during her senior year. Most recently, she was selected as the 2012
CIAA Woman of the Year, and the recipient of the 2013 CIAA Commissioner’s Service Award.
“I'm grateful to have the opportunity to work for my alma mater, serve as a mentor to the student-athletes on
the cross country team, and promote the athletic department through athletic communication,” stated
Kolezynski.
A native of Strongsville, Ohio, Kolezynski currently resides in Murfreesboro. She received her MBA from
Cleveland State University in July of 2013.
Allie Kolezynski returns to her alma mater
for her second year as part of the athletic
department staff at Chowan. Kolezynski
works to promote all 15 of Chowan’s varsi-
ty sports and cheerleading squad while
coaching the women’s cross country team.
In 2012-13, Kolezynski guided the Hawks
to a fifth place finish at the CIAA Champi-
onships, a three-spot improvement from
the year before. The squad was also
named “Most Improved” among female
teams at Chowan. The Hawks also
claimed a first place finish at the Virginia
Union Invitational, a first-time accomplish-
ment as members of NCAA Division II.
She graduated from Chowan in May of
2012, with a degree in Business Admin-
istration. “Chowan was a great choice for
me as a student-athlete, and I know it is a
great choice for me to begin my career in
athletics,” stated Kolezynski.
