Graduation symbolizes the culmination of many years of hard work and is a time for you, your family and friends to recognize and celebrate your success. The faculty and staff of California State University, Fresno congratulate you on your academic success and wish to ensure that your Commencement Ceremony will be a fitting conclusion to this phase of your education. We ask for your help in making the ceremony a pleasant experience for all by attentively considering the rights and feelings of other participants and guests.
The Commencement Ceremony is a respectful academic ritual. To participate in the ceremony, you must wear the appropriate academic regalia and maintain decorum.

Parking & Building Accessibility• Free parking in all lots on campus. Best lots for guests: Lots P1, P2, P5 & P6 (west of the Save Mart Center).• Guests with mobility concerns may be dropped off at the circle drive off Shaw Ave. immediately adjacent to the Student Recreation Center (just west of the Save Mart Center).• Handicap parking lots: Lot 5 (directly behind Save Mart Center), and in Lots P1, P5 and P6.
NOTES:1. Freeway 168 Westbound will be closed to vehicular traffic from Shepherd Ave. to McKinley Ave. from 7:30-9:30 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2014. Please plan to use an alternate route and expect traffic delays.2. Designate a meeting place with your graduate outside the arena following the ceremony; guests are not permitted on the floor level after the ceremony. 3. Your graduate may not bring coat, purse, bag, backpack or other personal items to the arena, please have them leave all belongings except regalia with you. • No tickets are required, there is no limit on guests.
• Arena doors open at 8 a.m., seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
You may sit anywhere in the arena except on the floor and in lower sections 102, 103, 104 (reserved for
graduates). You will want to sit on the side of the arena where your graduate will be seated. Their seating
is designated by the specific college/school their degree is from – see map on back page for details.
• Seating for guests in wheelchairs is available throughout the arena. Due to limited space, only
one person is permitted to accompany a person in a wheelchair.
• Ushers will direct guests with difficulty climbing stairs to the northwest elevator to access
seating areas from the arena floor. Following the ceremony, these guests may exit using the
arena floor elevator.
• The first row of Section 111 is designated for guests with special hearing needs.
• The concession stands in the arena will be open for water and soft drink purchases only.
• Flower bouquets and fresh leis will be for sale at merchandise sites throughout the arena.
• Alumni gear will also be available for sale in the atrium on Commencement day, or at the
Kennel Book Store.
• You may take photographs from your seat throughout the event. You will not be permitted
on the floor, nor can you leave your seat to get closer to the floor to take photographs.
• Professional photographers will take your graduate’s picture at two points as they process in. A
free color proof will be mailed to their permanent address; there is no obligation to purchase.
• Graduates will process into the arena starting at approximately 9:30 a.m., thirty minutes prior to
the start of the ceremony.
• Diplomas will be mailed to student’s permanent address.
• After faculty have exited, please leave the arena. You will meet your graduate outside the building.

• Assemble in the loading dock at the Save Mart Center (Northeast side of building, closest to
Chestnut). Students who have mobility concerns may use the elevator inside the Northeast corner of
the arena.
• Once admitted, you will put on your regalia; it must be worn throughout the procession and
ceremony
• The cap is worn squarely on the head with the point in the middle of the forehead, tassel on the right
side of the mortarboard.
• Regalia items will be available for sale in the assembly area for last minute needs.
• Complete a photo card, it will be collected as you leave the assembly area to line up.
• Line up behind the sign designating your college or school.
• Last chance for restroom break prior to the ceremony!
• Professional photographers will take your picture as you line up for the processional. A free color
proof will be mailed to your permanent address; there is no obligation to purchase.
• Order of Procession: Dean’s Medal recipients and Bachelor’s candidates by college (in two lines) will
be followed by all Master’s candidates, then faculty, and then the President’s platform party.
• At the proper signal, graduates will follow the marshals and process into the arena.
• Stand directly in front of your seat. When the entire row is full, you may be seated.
• Please stand when the President’s party enters (after all graduates and faculty are seated).
• Please remain seated for the entire ceremony.
• Undergraduate candidates will be recognized by college/school first. The Dean of your college or
school will tell you when to stand as a group during the ceremony.
• When President Castro confers all the undergraduate degrees, you will stand and move your tassel to
the left side of the mortarboard.
• Master’s degree candidates will then be presented, and their degrees conferred.
• Doctoral Candidates will receive their degrees and their hoods at the stage.
• Please stand for the recessional. The President’s Party exits first, followed by faculty.
• After faculty have exited, you are free to leave the building on your own. Meet your guests outside
the building.
