Service Club and Community Service
The Service Club has had a busy and productive year, thanks to the active and dynamic student leadership of Jessica Giller and Alina Hussain. We coordinated the all-school annual canned food drive, which yielded more than 9,000 cans in November for the St. Francis Center in Vinton County, two Red Cross blood drives, and a drive for the Community Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS) organization. In addition, Service Club leaders and class service representatives organized a number of community service projects, including handing out water at the Columbus Marathon in the fall. In May, a group of underclassmen participated in the May Program Community Service Trip, visiting six different sites, where they engaged in such activities as organizing clothing donations at United Methodist Free Store, packing and sorting items at the Mid-Ohio food bank, visiting the animals at the Humane Society of Delaware County, and mulching and weeding in the Topiary Park. They also went down to McArthur in Vinton County to work for a day at the St. Francis Center, and helped new immigrants practice conversational English at CRIS. CSG girls are getting out into the community more and more, demonstrating a strong ethic of service and proving that girls can make a difference.
