MEC Tournament Notes ... • After three teams tied for the regular season championship, the Mountain East Conference will name one winner this weekend at the Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, W.Va.• At halftime of the last game of the regular sea-son, a five-way championship was a possibility.• Glenville State is the defending champion.• The quarterfinals will be played on Thursday, March 5, the semifinals will be played on Satur-day, March 7, and the tournament will conclude on Sunday, March 8. • Four teams received byes to the quarterfinal round: co-champions West Liberty, Shepherd and Charleston, along with Wheeling Jesuit.• By virtue of tiebreakers, West Liberty is seed-ed first, followed by Shepherd and Charleston.• WLU enters the tournament with the longest winning streak in the league at four games. • The MEC will provide a live video webcast for all games at the Charleston Civic Center on MountainEast.org. Additionally, the games will be broadcast on the radio via MetroNews and West Virginia Radio affiliate stations.• The media-only live stat link for all games at the MEC Tournament is: http://mec.statbroadcast.com• The MEC All-Tournament team will consist of eight players, including the Most Valuable Play-er. The team will be selected by members of the media and the MEC office.

More MEC Notes• As of Feb. 28, the Mountain East Conference had the second-highest scoring average of any league in NCAA Division II with 69.57 points per game.• Shepherd had the toughest strength of sched-ule of any team in the MEC with its opposition having a winning percentage of .541• Two teams from the MEC were in the top 10 in the NCAA Atlantic Region rankings released on Feb. 25. Charleston is ranked fifth and Fairmont State is eighth. Teams ranked in the top eight in the region at the end of the regular season receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament selection show will be Sun-day, March 8, at 10 p.m.• Fairmont State had the best non-conference record this year going 6-1, with Charleston close behind going 5-1.• The team that made the biggest jump from the preseason poll to the final standings was Shep-herd. The Rams were tabbed eight, but tied for the league title and are seeded second. UVa-Wise moved up from 11th in the preseason poll and tied for eighth.

About the mec• On July 1, 2013, 12 charter members offi-cially moved to the Mountain East Conference: Concord University, Fairmont State University, Glenville State College, Notre Dame College, Shepherd University, the University of Charles-ton, Urbana University, West Liberty University, West Virginia State University, Wheeling Jesuit University, West Virginia Wesleyan College and the University of Virginia’s College at Wise.• The Mountain East Conference sponsors championships in 17 sports: football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, volley-ball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soc-cer, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s track and field.• The conference offices are located in Bridge-port, W.Va., less than half a mile off of Exit 124 on Interstate 79. Located in north central West Virginia, Bridgeport offers a centralized location for the 12 institutions, which spans throughout West Virginia, and stretches into central and northern Ohio as well as southwestern Virginia.
