Gigi Fernandez, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, burst onto the tennis scene by reaching the NCAA finals as a freshman, then turning professional in 1983 and becoming Puerto Rico's first female professional athlete in any sport
Gigi’s illustrious career included winning 2 Olympic Gold Medals and an astounding 71 titles on the WTA tour including 2 singles, 52 doubles and 17 Grand Slam doubles titles. Fernandez is recognized as one of the best doubles players of all-time
Fernandez was named Puerto Rican Athlete of the Century and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2010
