On behalf of 3GPP and Informa Telecoms & Media, I’m delighted to welcome you to the 8th Annual LTE World Summit. Moving to Barcelona for the first time, the flagship event of the LTE World Series has grown in parallel with the LTE industry over the past few years. Informa have done a lot during the year to again improve the speaker line-up, listening to stake-holders along the way. So, we are confident the show will provide many new perspectives, from the entire LTE ecosystem.
The last 12 months has seen the LTE market growing at pace and with this comes more and more challenges for operators and their partners. We’re pleased to see this reflected in the conference which features new TRACKs analysing the challenges around Voice over LTE Networks, Handling the Mobile Data Explosion, TD-LTE and LTE Advanced. This year’s conference theme is ‘Accelerating the Growth of LTE’ which should stimulate a host of interactive panel discussions, presentations and new features such as the LTE Operator Mind Share and LTE Focus Day: ‘Handling the Surge in Signaling Traffic’.
The LTE World Summit is a reflection of the great strides being made in the industry – growth, innovation and global acceptance that LTE is essential to the future of telecommunications. We at 3GPP are pleased to endorse the event once again and look forward to exchanging ideas and experiences on site.
We look forward to welcoming you in Barcelona!

the latest strategies to advance customer experience in the market, but it will be a great opportunity to network with like-minded people on related sustainable future business models”
Markus Friekamp, Head of International Wholesale Business Models, Deutsche Telekom, Germany
“I am really looking forward to sharing best practice with my peers whilst also keeping informed of the latest trends in the market. The panel discussions particularly hone in on
some really interesting topics which will help clarify some of the main hurdles we are facing with the increasing traffic and signaling load”
Marjan Mursec, Assistant Head of Radio Planning and Technical Expert, Mobitel, Slovenia
“Informa’s Signaling Focus Day is innovative in focusing on an issue that is increasingly affecting our networks. As the first event of its kind, I look forward to sharing my
insights and gaining some new perspectives on a broad range of topics of relevance both for today and tomorrow’s needs.”
Saim Afzal, Senior Network Consultant MTN Ghana
The Signaling Special Focus Day is the FIRST EVER event focusing on the urgent need to deal with the substantial increase in network demand as a result of exponential growth in smartphone-based signaling traffic, alongside growing M2M and VoLTE services. Welcoming insights from some of the leading minds in the space, the day will offer a unique chance to examine the range of network signaling solutions, notably the Diameter-based solutions, alongside management strategies which are now pivotal considerations in LTE deployment.
Ensure not to miss out on this interactive and thought-leading day to learn how you can ensure uninhibited network growth and optimal network performance on the path to LTE!
08:50 Chairman’s Introduction and Market OverviewDimitris Mavrakis, Principal Analyst, Informa Telecoms & Media, UK

It identifies the key drivers behind the development of LTE within the 3GPP, as well as implementation options and potential service opportunities. Key technology concepts of the radio interface and wider Evolved Packet System (EPS), incorporating the E-UTRAN (Evolved UTRAN) and EPC (Evolved Packet Core) are explored, as well as frequency requirements and licensing issues. A comparison with HSPA and WiMAX is made to complete the picture.
COURSE SUMMARY:• Market Technologies & the Changing Market• HSPA & HSPA+ Features• Service Architecture Evolution (SAE)• Service Provision in LTE• Summary & Brief Technology Comparison
LTE TECHNICAL OVERVIEW21-22 May 2012, Barcelona (€1475)
This course is designed for the delegate who requires a more technical insight into the operation of LTE, both the radio interface and system architecture are covered in detail. The delegate attending this training programme will gain an in depth appreciation of the architecture and operation of the LTE system including the OFDM based radio interface. The physical layer section includes topics such as OFDMA, SC-FDMA and advanced antenna techniques including MIMO. The functions of the eNB, MME, sGW and the standard interfaces X2 and S1 are explained and the overall operation of the SAE is demonstrated with example procedures.
