Child Caring/Child Placing Licenses
Understanding DRCC
The CHFS Office of Inspector General, Division of Regulated Child Care is Kentucky's regulatory agency for licensing all day cares, long-term care facilities, and child adoption/child-placing agencies in the commonwealth. DRCC should NOT be confused with the DCBS Division of Child Care who provides information regarding professional development opportunities for day care staff and other child care professionals, as well as coordinates several subsidy programs.
Day Care Licenses
• Type I - 4 or more children provided care in a business setting, or a part of a home that is used strictly for day care
• Type II - 4 to 12 children cared for in the provider’s home
CERTIFIED FAMILY HOMES
• In-home child care• 4-6 non-related children• Maximum of 10 including related (child,
stepchild, grandchild, niece, nephew, sibling or child in custody of provider)
• No more than 6 children under the age of 6, including the provider’s own children
Non-regulated providers
• Care for three non-related children• Care for related children - must be a
grandchild, niece, nephew, sibling, or own child
