held December 15-18, 2021 at Hyatt Regency Orange County (Los Angeles area), CA, USA. The UKC 2021 is

co-hosted by three prestigious organizations: the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA),

the Korean Federation of Science & Technology Societies (KOFST), and the Korea-U.S. Science Cooperation

Center (KUSCO).

The theme of UKC 2021 is “Pursuing Global Health and Sustainability.” We are to accelerate the momentum on

sustainability (UKC 2020 theme) and to address global health challenges including the current and next pandemic.

UKC 2021 provides unique opportunities for participants to actively engage in discussing not only on these

challenges but also broad science and engineering challenges through various symposium sessions and forums.

UKC 2021 provides invaluable engaging opportunities for cooperation between the United States and Korea. With

a rich history spanning over thirty years, the UKC program includes plenary sessions, special panel sessions,

symposiums, forums, and workshops that cover broad areas of science and technology. In addition, UKC 2021

includes Young Generation and Professional Forum (YG/PF) and the Youth Science and Technology Leadership

Camp (YSTLC). We plan to provide a meeting space for young entrepreneurs to share their ideas and build

international networks.

Plenary SessionsThere are four plenary sessions for all participants. Internationally renowned keynote speakers will address latest research trends on Social Sciences,Humanities, and Art & Sciences.

Science Diplomacy Forum

At the critical time of various dialogues in Korean peninsula and in the region, this forum is to discuss the role of science diplomacy and other related issues for enhancing cooperative activities and contributing to prosperity despite rapidly changing and challenging environments.

University Leadership Forum

University Leadership Forum is an excellent opportunity to meet university leaderships in Korea and the U.S. together and discuss topics, such as:collaboration opportunities among universitiesin Korea and the U.S. future challenges in university administration; technological advances into university administration; best practices in higher education

Sponsor Forum, Exhibition and Job Fair

UKC 2021 provides an opportunity for sponsors toorganize the sponsor-named forums, which can serve as platforms for leaders to exchange ideas on futurecooperation and promote collaborations with thesponsor institutions. UKC offers sponsor booths topromote their research performance, products, etc. and also provide a job fair to connect participants with sponsors.

UKC 2021 Program Overview

Young Generation Forum (YGF)

The YGF at UKC aims to provide career and leadership training to next-generation students and early-career professionals. The YGF will include workshops for transitioning from school to advanced degrees or careers. Topics include choosing academia or industry, pursuing a career outside of my major, paying off school loans and personal finance.

Professional Forum (PF)

The PF sessions aim to provide career and leadershipdevelopment to mid-career professionals. These sessions will focus on industry professionals and topics such as self-marketing, relationship management at work, advanced personal finance, EQ networking, workplace harassment, career speed talks, and practical skills workshops.

KSEA-KUSCO Graduate Scholarship

Each year, 20 graduate students are selected as the KSEA-KUSCO scholarship winners. Awardees receive their scholarship at the UKC plenary session and participate in the Young Generation and Professional Forum during UKC and build their network with UKC participants.

Data Science Workshop

Data and analytics are now key to business decisionmaking, driving research, and automating human tasks. However, finding value from data requires more than just using tools but rather also interpreting and bringing meaningful insights from hidden patterns. This Workshop is a hands-on crash-course to the world of data analysis and modeling using popular open source tools; R or Python.

Youth Science & Technology Leadership Camp (YSTLC)The 5th Youth Science and Technology Leadership Camp(YSTLC) is a program that contributes to theadvancement of Korean-American high school studentsin their knowledge of their science related majors andpursuits their dreams as future scientists and engineersthrough visiting University labs, networking withrenowned scientists and performing hands-on scienceprojects.

SPONSOR NAMED FORUM UKC 2021 provides a unique opportunity for a sponsor to organize the sponsor-named forum, which can serve as platform for leaders to exchange ideas on future cooperation and promote collaborations with the sponsoring institution.

Based on the successful forums in past years (see the examples below), we are in the process of identifying sponsors that can host forums in areas of emerging topics. These topics include, but are not limited to, focus areas identified by the Ministry of Science and ICT. We can help the sponsors identify potential chairs and speakers of the forum. Organizers, chair/co-chairs and speakers can be Korean-American and non-ethnic Korean US researchers and experts from government, academia, and industry. To meet the sponsor’s needs, the UKC 2021 organizing committee will help customizing a forum structure and identifying a forum chair that can work closely with the sponsor.
