St Francis College News Friday 6 June, 2014
This is an amazing school. We have awesome students.
We have dedicated staff who are supported by wonderful
parents to provide extensive opportuni es for our students.
I a ended my first Under 8s day on Friday. It was such a
joy filled day and I am not sure who was having more fun –
students, staff or parents. It was a day to be grateful for – a day of community and coopera on.
I am grateful to the teachers and parents who worked hard to organise this day, especially
Ms Natalie Kirkman and Ms Renata DeMonte.
Saturday was also a day of fun and hard work for the U12 Metro squad. The students trained
posi vely with Mr Tim Sione, Mr Leo Hoponoa and Mr Lachlan Grove to develop their skills and
team work. Again without the support of parents this day would not have been possible.
There are only 3 weeks of term le . Where does the me go? It seems to fly by at St Francis
College but we are at the point in the term where it is important to remember to focus on learning
and maintain a posi ve perspec ve about what is important and achievable. Mrs Nella Rizzo
shared some ps with the Year 7 – 12 Assembly about the importance of adequate rest, a good
diet, exercise and some relaxa on to maximise learning especially at the end of the term
when work, assignments and exams are the focus.
We extend our Congratula ons to Sr Lee Veriga who has been shortlisted as a finalist for the
Excellence in Teaching Award – Excellence in Teaching RE. We look forward to joining with Sr Lee
on June 18 at a cocktail func on where the winner will be announced. Anyone who has been
taught by Sr Lee will agree this is a well deserved shortlis ng.

Competition Winners: The Too Many Elephants competition was the cause of much discussion at the front of the library. Agreement could often not be reached on the number of elephants hidden in the display with totals of anything from 23 to 27 being popular. There were in fact 26 elephants hiding in and around the house. The 2 winners who counted correctly were Riley from pcJS and Sarah from pcJO. Here are the lucky winners with their prizes.
Library bags are on sale for the next two weeks. The current cost of $6 has been slashed to $3 in an attempt to have every child with a library bag. The supplier is now charging $6.50 so our price will need to rise accordingly. Our policy of No Bag, No Borrow teaches the students to respect books and the property of others and keeps the books in good condition for future borrow-ers. The library bags can be bought at the library. Great value at $3.
