69797 CERTIFICATE III in HORSEMANSHIP
(RIDING, HANDLING and BEHAVIOUR)
Overview
This Qualification is designed for those persons who take part in or are employed
within the recreational equine industry to facilitate the uniform treatment and care of
equines across Australia and to promote safe and adequate riding and handling
practices.
Course Outline
This course is conducted via distance education over a twelve (12) month period,
incorporating at a minimum, four (4) face-to-face Practical Assessment Sessions. There
is a minimum four week gap between practical assessment activities.
Theoretical Assessments may be completed by the student and returned to AEI Head
Office for marking. Theoretical Assessments of a Unit should be completed prior toattempting Practical Assessment tasks contained within that Unit.
Pre-requisites/Requirements
Students will be required to complete a Horse Identification forms and provide
Property Identification Codes for the horse/s used during the course (ask us about
this)
All students will be required to undertake a risk assessment check (horse ,rider and
equipment) prior to commencing in any Practical activities/assessments
Student must be 15 years of age or older and be able to provide suitable Proof of
Identity
Accreditation and Statement of Attainment
On successful completion of this course a Certificate III in Horsemanship (Riding,
Handling and Behaviour) will be awarded.

Duration
The course is conducted over a twelve (12) month period in which time students are to complete the twelve (12) Core
Units of the Qualification.
Completion of Units
The course contains twelve (12) Core Units. These Units are delivered via distance learning including student support on
request through telephone conferences or email assistance.
Competency is achieved after successfully completing all assessment tasks relevant to the unit. These assessment tasks
may take on a range of forms, including both theoretical and practical assessments tasks. Of the twelve (12) Units,
eleven (11) include theoretical assessment while eight include practicals.
Theoretical assessments can be completed by the student at their own pace before being sent to AEI for marking.
Practical Assessments must be attempted in a face-to-face environment with an AEI appointed assessor. AEI willallocate the student to an assessor in their area.
Statement of Attainment or Full Qualification?
The Course has been designed with a range of people in mind, from the enthusiastic rider looking to enhance their skills
and knowledge, to the mum and dad whos child has taken a keen interest in equestrian activities.
This being the case, the selection of Units can be customised to suit individual needs. For those looking to attain a full
Qualification all twelve (12) Units must be completed, however Statements of Attainment are available on the
completion of individual Units.
Nationally Recognised Qualification
On the successful completion of all twelve (12) Core Units the student will be awarded with a Nationally Recognised
Certificate III Qualification.
