OverviewHotCloudbringstogetherresearchersandpractitionersfromaca-demiaandindustryworkingoncloudcomputingtechnologiestosharetheirperspectives,reportonrecentresearchresults,andidentifynew/emerging“hot”trendsinthisimportantarea.Whilecloudcom-putinghasgainedtractionoverthepastfewyears,manychallengesremaininthedesign,implementation,anddeploymentofcloudcomputing.

TheHotCloudprogramisarrangedtocreatecloseinteractionbe-tweenresearchersandindustrypractitionerssothattheresearchcaninformcurrentdeploymentsanddeploymentchallengescaninformnewresearch.HotCloudisopentoexaminingallmodelsofcloudcomputing,includingthescalablemanagementofin-houseservers,remotelyhostedinfrastructure(IaaS),infrastructureaugmentedwithtoolsandservicesthatprovideplatformasaservice(PaaS),andsoft-wareasaservice(SaaS).

WesolicitoriginalpapersonawiderangeofcloudcomputingtopicsforHotCloud.Weparticularlyencouragethesubmissionofpositionpapersthatdescribenovelresearchdirectionsandworkthatisinitsformativestages,aswellaspapersaboutpracticalexperiencesandlessonslearnedfromproductionsystems.Interestingissuesshowupatalllevelsofthesoftwarestack,butHotCloud’semphasisisoncombiningmechanismstobuildworkingcloudsratherthanonimplementingnewlow-levelmechanismsthemselves.Forexample,papersonusingvirtualmachinesinnewwayswouldbepreferredoverpapersonimprovingcoreVMtechnology.

• Cloudsupportfornewhardwaretechnologies(e.g.acceleratorsandGPGPUs)

• Thecompletesubmissionmustbenolongerthanfive(5)pagesnot including references.Itshouldbetypesetintwo-columnformatin10-pointtypeon12-point(single-spaced)leading,withthetextblockbeingnomorethan6.5”wideby9”deep.Submissions that violate any of these restrictions may not be reviewed. Thelimitswillbeinterpretedfairlystrictly,andnoextensionswillbegivenforreformatting.Ifyouwish,youmayusetheLaTeXtemplateandstylefileavailableatwww.usenix.org/templates-conference-papers.

• Therearenoformalrestrictionsontheuseofcoloringraphsorcharts,butpleaseusethemsparingly—noteverybodyhasaccesstoacolorprinter.

• Thenamesofauthorsandtheiraffiliationsshouldbeincludedonthefirstpageofthesubmission.

• Simultaneoussubmissionofthesameworktomultiplevenues,submissionofpreviouslypublishedwork,orplagiarismcon-stitutesdishonestyorfraud.USENIX,likeotherscientificandtechnicalconferencesandjournals,prohibitsthesepracticesandmaytakeactionagainstauthorswhohavecommittedthem.SeetheUSENIXConferenceSubmissionsPolicyatwww.usenix.org/conferences/submissions-policyfordetails.Papersaccompaniedbynondisclosureagreementformswillnotbeconsidered.IfyouareuncertainwhetheryoursubmissionmeetsUSENIX’sguidelines,pleasecontacttheprogramco-chairs,[email protected],ortheUSENIXoffice,[email protected].

Reviewingoffullpaperswillbedonebytheprogramcommittee,po-tentiallyassistedbyoutsiderefereesinlimitedcases.Acceptedpaperswillbeshepherdedthroughaneditorialreviewprocessbyamemberoftheprogramcommittee.

Allpaperswillbeavailableonlinetoregisteredattendeesbeforetheworkshop.Ifyouracceptedpapershouldnotbepublishedpriortotheevent,pleasenotifyproduction@usenix.org.ThepaperswillbeavailableonlinetoeveryonebeginningonJune17,2014.AcceptedsubmissionswillbetreatedasconfidentialpriortopublicationontheUSENIXHotCloud‘14Website;rejectedsubmissionswillbeperma-nentlytreatedasconfidential.
