Urvi Ashok Piramal Foundation (UAPF) has its presence in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Prime areas of intervention are health, education, livelihood and environment. Passion for wildlife and preserving it for our future generations is the driving force. We realize that conservation of our natural resources and protection of our forests is our responsibility. To achieve this goal, UAPF closely works with the forest departments of respective states. It operates Mobile Health Units, which provides basic healthcare to 480 villages located in and around 4 major Tiger reserves in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The MHU's caters largely to tribal populations dwelling in and around these forests. Over 140 tribal families living around these forests are provided with livelihood through various options like hand block printing, village tourism, handmade paper making, tailoring and allied skills. This helps in resolving man-animal conflicts and aids in conservation through community participation.
Society of Promotion of Area Resource Centres (SPARC)
Established in 1984, SPARC is one of the largest NGO’s working on housing and infrastructure issues of the urban poor in India and throughout the developing worldA city can never progress when a large proportion of its population lives in squalid, unhealthy, undignified and inhuman conditions. Apart from inequity and injustice, slum settlements affect the health, wellbeing and economic development of a City.SPARC promotes Area Resource Centres that work toward the mobilization and organization of communities for the poor and vulnerable. Thus enabling Pavement Dwellers, Slum Dwellers and those living in Informal settlements, to gain access to the resources they need to upgrade and formalize their communities.SPARC aspires to empower the urban poor, to negotiate and partner with government agencies, private landowners, and financial institutions to realize their rights to land tenure, housing and basic amenities - water, electricity and toilets.Creating Slum free cities ...benefits all!
