Welcome
Welcome to the International Conference on Social Responsibility, Ethics and Sustainable
Business!
We are delighted to host the Conference at the University of Minho in Braga/Portugal. The
ICSR conference has grown and this year we are very pleased to host more than 100
participants from 30 countries, including academics/researchers, PhD students and
practitioners. Over the 2-day event we will have 5 Keynote speakers and 89 oral
presentations in parallel sessions.
Under the theme “Corporate responsibility, sustainability & markets”, the conference
explores how evolving organisations and market logics, connect with the purpose of
corporate responsibility and sustainability practices, or related community and societal
logics. Contributions include current thinking and developments, combining theoretical and
empirical foundations on markets, organisations and sustainability. Such over-arching theme
covers a wide range of topics from multiple and interdisciplinary perspectives, including,
Marketing, Engineering, Law, Finance, Human Resources, Accounting (etc.).
On a final note, we would like to register our gratitude to the School of Economics and
Management at the University of Minho and to the Centre for Research in Economics and
Management (NIPE) for hosting the event. We are also grateful to the organising committee
and everybody who directly and indirectly supported and contributed to this conference,
including the keynote speakers and all the participants.

The School of Economics and Management
The School of Economics and Management (EEG) at the University of
Minho is a cosmopolitan School involving a multiplicity of teaching
and scientific projects in a wide range of areas, such as, economics,
business administration and political science and international relations
(among others). The School offers 8 undergraduate Programmes, 15
Masters and 5 Doctoral Programmes (some which are part of a
consortium with other Universities). EEG is committed to develop and
disseminate scientific knowledge at the highest level, together with a
continuous interaction with the corporate and business sectors.
The Centre for Research in Economics and
Management
The Centre for Research in Economics and Management's (NIPE) aims
at fostering scientific development in Economics and Management. The
center has 37 effective members and is ranked among the best
Portuguese research centres in the fields of Economics and
Management.
NIPE is an internationally oriented research center. NIPE's members
publish in leading international journals and are involved in
international research collaborations. The center further organises a
seminar series involving world-wide researchers. Every year, NIPE
hosts a Summer School attracting researchers from all over the world.
NIPE also contributes to the adoption of economic policies based on
rigorous scientific analysis of the Portuguese economy, through the
delivery of consulting services.
Speaker biographies
Francisco Veiga is Professor of Economics and Dean of the School of Economics
and Management at the University of Minho. He is the former president of the
European Public Choice Society.
Holding an undergraduate degree in Economic and Political International Relations
from UMinho, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of South Carolina, he
teaches and researches in the areas of Macroeconomics, International Monetary
Economics, Political Economy, and Economic Growth. He is a member of the
Editorial Board of the European Journal of Political Economy, has several articles
published in journals such as the Journal of Development Economics and the
European Economic Review, and coordinated several research projects.
At UMinho, he was an elected member of the General Council of UMinho, director
of the Economic Policies Research Unit (NIPE), of the Department of Economics,
and of the Ph.D., Master and undergraduate programs in Economics. Among the
consultancy tasks performed are studies for the European Court of Auditors, the
Portuguese Directorate General of Local Authorities (DGAL), and the Secretary of
State of Culture.
Jean-Pascal Gond is Professor of Corporate Social Responsibility at Cass Business
School, City, University of London where he heads ETHOS – The Centre for
Responsible Enterprise. His research mobilizes organization theory and economic
sociology to investigate corporate social responsibility and responsible investment.
His current research on CSR includes the roles of standards and metrics in the
institutionalization of CSR in the financial marketplace and in corporations, the
influence of CSR on employees and the effectiveness of investors’ engagement of
corporation on environmental, social and governance issues.
He has published more than 50 articles in the fields of corporate responsibility and
organization theory in leading academic journals such as Academy of Management
Review, Business and Society, Business Ethics Quarterly, Economy and Society,
Human Relations, Organization Science, Organization Studies, Journal of Business
Ethics, Journal of Management, and Journal of Management Studies.
Maria Céu Cortez is Full Professor of Management at the School of Economics
and Management, University of Minho. She is director of the PhD in Business
Administration of the University of Minho and Associate Editor of the European
Journal of Finance.
Her research focuses on socially responsible investments and portfolio
performance evaluation and has been published in several journals, such as:
Journal of Business Ethics, Business Ethics- An European Review, Corporate
Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, Journal of Banking and
Finance, Quantitative Finance, European Financial Management, European
Journal of Finance, Financial Markets and Portfolio Management, International
Journal of Finance & Economics, International Review of Financial Analysis,
Applied Economics Letters, Journal of Cleaner Production and Research in
International Business and Finance.
Anthony Samuel (PhD Cardiff University) is a Lecturer in Marketing and Strategy
at Cardiff University with a research interest in the field of Fair Trade marketing
and social enterprise. Anthony’s multidisciplinary research embraces geographical
and socio-economic notions of place into the marketing dynamic.
His research navigates the complex interfaces between place management/
marketing, social enterprises, sustainable business practices and ethical
consumption. Recently his work has concentrated on the challenges social
enterprises face while operating in places that are suffering from social and
economic deprivation.
Anthony’s work has been published in a number of leading journals including; The
Journal of Business Ethics, The European Journal of Marketing, Tourism
Management, The Journal of Consumer Behaviour, Local Economy, The Journal of
Macromarketing and The Social Enterprise Journal.
Catherine da Silveira joined Nova School of Business & Economics, in Portugal,
after 14 years of executive experience, first with the L’Oreal Group in France, USA
and Portugal, then in the IT Sector.
Since, she has been combining an academic role, presently teaching Brand
Management, New Trends in Consumer Behavior and Branding for Sustainability,
among other Courses, to Executives and in the Masters and MBA Programs, with
executive/consulting functions within the School, Companies, and NGOs. In
particular, she has been working for Unilever, Nestlé, L’Oreal, Fundação Calouste
Gulbenkian, Unicef, Reclusa, and she is a Board Member of Ach Brito/Claus Porto
and Conseiller du Commerce Exterieur de la France.
She holds a PhD in Marketing from The Open University Business School (UK) and
a M.A. in Marketing Research from Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (France).
Sandra Cristina Leitão Cerqueira is Co-CEO at TUB – Transportes Urbanos de
Braga, E.M, since November 2017. With a degree in International Relations from
the University of Minho, she completed her studies at the University of Central
Arkansas, under an EU-US exchange programme.
She holds an MBA from Porto Business School and has a postgraduate degree in
Health Care Management from the University of Minho. Throughout her
professional career, she held positions at AICEP – Portuguese Investment and
Foreign Trade Agency, at national textile companies and at the Internationalization
Office of AEP – Portuguese Business Association. The latter as responsible for the
implementation, operationalization and management of a permanent showroom for
16 national home-décor companies in New York, USA.
In 2007, she joined ALERT Life Sciences Computing, a multinational company
dedicated to the development of clinical software solutions, where she was
responsible for the company’s competitive dialogues and international tenders as
well as supporting the establishment of licensing partnerships within the company’s
Channel Partners Program.
Additionally, she was member of the Board of Directors at – BRAVAL, a multi-
municipal waste recovery and treatment company.
Dr Georgiana Grigore is an Associate Professor in marketing at Henley Business
School. She is co-founder and chair of ‘Social Responsibility, Ethics and Sustainable
Business’ conference. Her major area of research is in marketing and corporate
responsibility concepts and practices, including changes that result from digital
media. She has published several books, including Corporate Responsibility and
Digital Communities and Corporate Social Responsibility in the Digital Age that
explore a contemporary intersection of two contemporary fields: corporate
responsibility and digital technology. Her research has appeared in international
journals including Marketing Theory, Journal of Business Research, and Internet
Research.
Alin Stancu is Professor of Corporate Social Responsibility and Public Relations in
the Department of Marketing from The Bucharest University of Economic Studies.
His main areas of research include: business ethics, corporate responsibility and
public relations. He is the co-founder of The International Conference on Social
Responsibility, Ethics and Sustainable Business (www.csrconferences.org) and
editor of several books in Palgrave Studies in Governance, Leadership and
Responsibility.
Cláudia Simões (PhD University of Warwick/UK) is Associate Professor in the
Department of Management at the University of Minho in Portugal. Her research
interests focus on corporate marketing (reputation, identity and branding),
sustainability, co-creation and customer experience.
Her work has been published in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science,
Journal of Business Research, European Journal of Marketing, Industrial Marketing
Management, Business Ethics Quarterly, Studies in Higher Education (among
others). She is Associate Editor of the European Journal of Marketing, and editorial
board member of the Journal of Services Marketing and the Corporate Journal of
Marketing Communications. She has cooperated with the AICEP Portugal Global -
Trade & Investment Agency; Eixo Atlântico do Noroeste Peninsular [European Union
cross-border region of North of Portugal and Galicia]; Braga Trade Association
(Portugal) and the Advanced Institute of Management (UK).
