In the Year 1840 there will be two Eclipses of the Sun and two of the
Moon. 1
I. A Partial Eclipse of the Moon, February 17, visible at Trevandrum.

Magnitude (Moon‘s diameter = 1)= 0.36, on the Southern Limb.
At Trevandrum the Moon rises at 6h. 7m. (two minutes after her first con
tact with Dark Shadow) eclipsed '08 of her diameter on the South-eastern
Limb.
ill. An Annular Eclipse of the Sun, March 4, visible at Trevandrum as
a Partial Eclipse.

End 9 18.7 Trevandrum.
Duration : 2 hours 33.7 minutes.
Magnitude (Sun’s diameter :: l): 0.8, on the Northern Limb.
With the exception of the western and northern parts of Asia, this Eclipse
may be seen all over that Continent, in several of the Eastern Islands, and in
part of the Indian and North Pacific Ocean.
It will appear Annular in the middle parts of China and in Eastern Asia.
At Trevandrum the Sun rises at 6h. 14m., half an hour before the com
mencement of the Eclipse.
