Alert SystemsContext
Several alerting system have been proposed over the pastyears. They all have in common that they try to solve the problemin a smart way. This includes also some psychological aspects andthe heterogeneity of the receiving devices. In these systems however, the alert is self contained.

Alert SystemRequirements
Besides the classic requirements of an alerting system, special requirements apply to the eHealth domain. These requirements include:
Insurance of delivery.Traceability of each alert.Non-repudiation of alerts. The medical secrecy.

The original SystemDesign Considerations
The system deployed at the hospital before starting thisproject was composed of two parts:
A windows client andthe Automatic Medical Laboratory System (AMLS)
At least the AMLS had to be maintained by the newsystem. The system has to adapt to new devices easily. The implementation should be platform-independent.

EvaluationFirst impressions
The presented system was well received. There are still concerns about security and privacy of thedata. The system was designed for giving caregivers access tomedical results but, this is only the first step.Further integration is greatly enhanced by a clean(RESTful) architecture.

Conclusion IBenefits for eHealth
We identified the challenge of designing an integratedRESTful system in the eHealth domain. On of the goals of this integration was to model a systemwhich feels as natural as using a paper based system. Most of he presented components are not real resourcesso far, but the aim is to push further the integration of realmedical devices like a heart-rate monitor.

Conclusion IIBenefits for eHealth
The most important question when building eHealthrelated system is whether the quality of the medicalsupport gets improved or not. We can state that one of theadvantages of the proposed system is the greatlyenhanced response time to critical incidents.A prototype of the Automatic Medical Laboratory System iscurrently in deployment and tested by caregivers and somelaboratories.A second version including all the presented resources isactually under heavy development.
