INTRODUCTIONAcrylic fiber is a synthetic fiber that closely resembles wool in its character. According to the definition of the ISO (International Standards Organization) and BISFA (International Synthetic Fiber Standardization Office), fibers which contain a minimum of 85% acrylonitrile in their chemical structure are called "Acrylic Fibers".

Acrylic- Manufacturing Process and Properties Polyacrilonitrile ( Acrylic)
•Vinyl Cyanide, more commonly known as acrylonitrile, can under go addition polymerisation to form polyacrylonitrile. Which is acrylic fibre.•Acrilonitrile is the main raw material for the manufacture of acrylic fibres.•It is made by Two methods. 1.In one commercial method hydrogen cyanide is treated with acetylene:
acetylene + Hydrogen cyanide(HCN) --> Acrilonitrile
2.In second method Ethylene--Air Oxidation--> Ethylene oxide + HCN--> Ethylene cyanahydrin--Dehydration at
300 deg C (catalyst)--> Acrylonitrile

Unit for acrylic fibre production, including polymerisation, spinning and fibre line.
The standard capacity for one single fibreline is 22'500 tons/year

In Polymerisation Process of Acrilonitrile
In a continuous polymerisation process,input (1). 95% acrylonitrile and (2)4% methyl acrylate
(3) 0.25% aqueous solution of K2S2O8, (4) 0.50 % Na2S2O5 solution (5).0.25% sulphuric acid are fed into the reaction vessel at 52 degree
C,under nitrogen atmosphere.Output:- giving a slurry with 67% polymer. The slurry is continuously withdrawn, filtered and washed till it is free from salts and dried.
Which is an acrylic fibre.

1.They are light weight .
2.They are comfortable to wear due to high moisture management.
3.Dyes can be easily applied to them and they are colorfast.
4.They are odor resistant .

5.In cold weather acrylics provide excellent insulation and warmth without any extra weight.
6.cleans easily.
7.it is flexible.
8.it has good stain resistance .

DISADVANTAGESOF ACRYLIC FIBERS
1.It get easily burnt in contact of flame.
2.Static electricity is easily chargedBetween acrylic fiber and skin

3.It get easily divastate and stained by oil or grease
4.Not so, strong as other syntheticFibers

Acrylic is lightweight, soft, and warm, with a wool-like feel. Acrylic is resistant to moths, oils, chemicals, and is very resistant to deterioration from sunlight exposure. This synthetic fiber is often used as a substitute for wool. . It has very good heat retention and fastness to light & very good shape retention, durability, easy care and quick dry qualities.

It is strong and warm, acrylic fiber is often used for sweaters and tracksuits and as linings for boots and gloves, as well as in furnishing fabrics and carpets. It is manufactured as a filament, then cut into short staple lengths similar to wool hairs, and spun into yarn.
