KAREN P. WEST, D.M.D., M.P.H.Dean, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, School of Dental Medicine
Dr. West received an undergraduate degree from the University of Louisville in 1977 and a D.M.D. in 1982 from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. She completed a General Practice Residency at the Medical College of Georgia in 1983, and was a 1992 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Public Health, where she received an M.P.H. in Health Administration. Dr. West also has a Certifi cate in Medical Management from the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics, and she was a 1999 Fellow in the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® program. Dr. West is a Fellow in the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Society.
Dr. West was in private practice in Kentucky before joining the academic ranks at the Medical College of Georgia, where she taught in the Community Dentistry Department and was the Director of the Children and Youth Dental Clinic.
From 1990 until 2007, she was a faculty member at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, serving in various roles such as Clinical Team Leader, Assistant and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Interim Director of the Public Service Division and Interim Assistant Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs. In 2007, Dr. West became Dean of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, School of Dental Medicine, where she serves as Dean and as a tenured Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. West has been involved in ADEA throughout her career. During her years in dental education, she has been committed to improving the quality of education for dental students and making community outreach and access to oral health care a priority in the dental curriculum. She has served as Chair on the ADEA Council of Faculties Administrative Board and the ADEA Council of Deans Administrative Board. She is a reviewer for the Journal of Dental Education. Dr. West is Immediate Past Chair of the Commission on Dental Accreditation and serves as a consultant for international accrediting bodies.

KAREN P. WEST, D.M.D., M.P.H.Dean, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, School of Dental Medicine
Dr. West received an undergraduate degree from the University of Louisville in 1977 and a D.M.D. in 1982 from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. She completed a General Practice Residency at the Medical College of Georgia in 1983, and was a 1992 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Public Health, where she received an M.P.H. in Health Administration. Dr. West also has a Certifi cate in Medical Management from the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics, and she was a 1999 Fellow in the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® program. Dr. West is a Fellow in the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Society.
Dr. West was in private practice in Kentucky before joining the academic ranks at the Medical College of Georgia, where she taught in the Community Dentistry Department and was the Director of the Children and Youth Dental Clinic.
From 1990 until 2007, she was a faculty member at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, serving in various roles such as Clinical Team Leader, Assistant and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Interim Director of the Public Service Division and Interim Assistant Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs. In 2007, Dr. West became Dean of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, School of Dental Medicine, where she serves as Dean and as a tenured Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. West has been involved in ADEA throughout her career. During her years in dental education, she has been committed to improving the quality of education for dental students and making community outreach and access to oral health care a priority in the dental curriculum. She has served as Chair on the ADEA Council of Faculties Administrative Board and the ADEA Council of Deans Administrative Board. She is a reviewer for the Journal of Dental Education. Dr. West is Immediate Past Chair of the Commission on Dental Accreditation and serves as a consultant for international accrediting bodies.
