annex conference room at 409 S. Pecan St. Hoyer said officials can use an overhead projector to show contractors images of the areas – particularly at the new jail site – that require lawn and grounds maintenance.
County officials will open
bids March 4 at 10 a.m., and the Commissioners Court will consider selecting a contractor March 9, County Auditor Tragina Smith said.
Hoyer said the county is seeking contractors’ bids not just for mowing, but also fertilizing, seeding and trimming shrubs.

Fire destroys Lometa houseBY DAVID LOWE DISPATCH RECORD
A fire Monday morning destroyed a Lometa house that Lometa Volunteer Fire Department Chief Bobby Odom said had been vacant at least six years.
The Lampasas and Lometa fire departments received notification about the 207 E. Olive St. fire a few minutes before 6 a.m.
Scott Hernandez, who lives on Olive Street, said he called 911 to report the fire after see-ing flames out his window.
The Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office was the first agency to arrive at the fire, Odom said. The fire chief said a sheriff’s officer had been in the area on a different matter.
The house at 207 E. Olive was engulfed in flames when Lometa firefighters arrived, Odom said. The Lometa Vol-unteer Fire Department sent two brush trucks and five firefighters -- including Odom, Lometa Mayor Carlos Garcia and Precinct 3 Commissioner Lewis Bridges -- to the blaze.
The Lampasas Fire Depart-ment sent three vehicles and four personnel – two firefight-ers, Capt. Corey Greiner and Fire Marshal Ronnie Withers – to the Lometa house. The first LFD vehicle arrived at
6:16 a.m., Greiner said.Acadian Ambulance
Service assisted by sending an ambulance to the fire site.
Firefighters fought the blaze from outside the building, Greiner said.
The fire was contained to the one-story wooden house, leaving adjacent pastures un-harmed, Odom said. Had the wind been blowing, the fire could have damaged nearby land, Odom said.
The fire was contained at 6:40 a.m., Greiner said. Fire-fighters continued working after that point, though, to ensure all “hot spots” were extinguished, Odom said.

fire site a few minutes before 9 a.m. At 9:16 a.m., Lometa VFD reported all its units had left the property.
Withers remained on the property at that point, and the blaze still was under investigation at press time Monday morning.
Although the house was re-ported to be vacant, Withers said some people stayed in the building on occasion. The house had no electricity, but there were propane bottles on the property, Withers said.
Hernandez said in the years he has lived on Olive Street, he occasionally saw a pickup at the 207 E. Olive property, but he said he never noticed people at the house.
