Ministry o Deence, Dr. A Subhananda Rao is a goldmedallist and has graduated (Mech. Engineering)rom National Institute o Technology, Warangal. He
obtained ME (Aeronautics) rom IISc, Bengaluru,and received Roll o Honour. He had his doctorate
rom Osmania University, Hyderabad. He has86 technical publications to his credit publishedin various journals and published/presented in
seminar/ conerence proceedings.
Dr. Rao was born in 1950 and joined DRDO at DRDL,
Hyderabad in 1975. Before assuming the charge of CCR&D
(Aeronautics) in May 2011 his other important appointments
were Director, Solid Propulsion System at Advanced Systems
Laboratory (ASL), Hyderabad and Director HEMRL, Pune. He

He is an acclaimed propulsion designer,and has designed, developed, realised,
productionised, and evaluated morethan 30 indigenous propulsion systems
or strategic and tactical missiles.He has been associated with thedevelopment o propellant processingplants, inrastructure or testing and
evaluation o solid propellant motors,and sotware or perormance prediction
o solid propulsion units. As DirectorHEMRL, he has successully executedestablishment o composite propellant
processing plant or case-bonded
rocket motors. Under his dynamicleadership, energetic super-elastic rocket
propellants, modular charge system orgun ammunition, high-energy LOVApropellants, insensitive plastic-bonded
explosive ormulations, advanced anti-
thermal anti-laser smoke grenades, laresor countermeasures, uel air explosives,
hybrid armour or tank protection, newinsensitive molecules FOX-7 and TATB,
were developed, tested and adopted oroperational systems.

Indias growing economic stature has
brought in newer responsibilities or the
Indian Navy around the Indian Ocean
and beyond. The role played by the Indian
Navy in the recent anti-piracy operations o
the coast o Somalia are a good example o
role that India is expected to play. Concerns
on tightening coastal security have added
urgency ater the 26/11 attacks.
Saabs portolio covers the air, surace,
underwater and coastal security domains
that provide Naval orces complete
command over the sea. Saab is interested
in catering to a range o requirements o the
Indian Navy and Coastguard. This includes
remotely operated and autonomous
underwater vehicles, state o the art 3D
multi unction radar, Sea Girae AMB, air
platorms or maritime reconnaissance and
patrol like the Saab 2000 and Saab 340, light
weight torpedoes that are specially suited
or littoral and shallow water operations,
RBS15, the anti ship missile that can be
launched rom land, air and sea and can be
suitably congured as a land attack cruise
missile, AIS transponders and command
centres or the National AIS network (a DG
Light Houses and Light Ships initiative) and
training systems like SPURT which can also

AUV62-MR, SPURT Solutions or the
Indian Navy
Saab has oered its Autonomous
Underwater Vehicle, AUV 62, in response
to the Indian Navys requirement or Sel
Propelled Underwater Targets (SPURT).
This AUV is designed or autonomous long
term missions. The current conguration
or the AUV is or training sonar operators in
detecting, tracking and classiying a variable
speed manoeuvring under water target on
the ships sonar system, as also or acting
as a credible target against which dynamic
torpedo rings with practice torpedoes can
be carried out.
The modularity approach adopted by
Saab, makes it possible or AUV 62 to be
recongured or mine hunting, search and
reconnaissance, mapping and sea bed
proling, and environmental monitoring.
The perormance o this platorm has been
successully demonstrated to the Navys
Field Evaluation Trials Team earlier this year.
SEA GIRAFFE, Radar trusted globally,
customized or India
Saab is oering its Sea Girae range
o radars that are amenable to multiple
applications in surveillance and security
roles. The 2D Sea Girae LT (SG LT), optimised
or surace surveillance role is easily
upgradable to a ull multi unction 3D Sea
Girae AMB (SG AMB) by merely upgrading
the antenna and some additional sotware.
This provides a reedom o deployment.
SG AMB is arguably one o the worlds
best 3 D multi unction radar and in use by
the Swedish Navy and many other navies.
Its light weight electronically stabilized
antenna makes it the radar o choice or
all war vessels, including those with very
low tonnage. The eatures o SG AMB thatmake it also attractive or surveillance and
control o coastal areas are its high data
update rates (60 RPM), simultaneous auto
tracking capability or over 400 surace,
200 air, and 50 jamming targets, splash
spotting, detection o moving and hovering
helos, UAVs and drones, and eectively
distinguishing small and large vessels in
close proximity o each other.
An artillery hunting eature has been
so rened that even mortar /RPG rounds
can be detected in ight, impact point
calculated, warning generated/ transmitted
with details, as also the launch point
determined to enable neutralization o
urther threat rom that launch point/ area.
Its light weight electronically stabilized
antenna makes it the radar o choice or all
war vessels, including those with very low
tonnage; and this also makes it amenable to
be containerized or rapid deployment.
This radar has been chosen or one o
two variants o the USNs Littoral Combat
Ship program, and its land equivalent is
included in the air deence solutions o UK
and Australian MoDs

Inosys Ltd has announced the launch o XBRL Filing Solution, a
solution orIndian companies to le nancial statements in XBRL
