Background
The University of Namibia has been
serving the nation in various ways and
contributes significantly to national
reconstruction and development since
its inception in 1992.
The Department of Food Science and
Technology is one of the 5 departments
in the Faculty of Agriculture of Natural
Resources. Since its establishment in
1996 the Department of Food Science
and Technology has been involvedin teaching, research and community
service. Below is a brief description of
the department.
Mission
To promote the sustainable processing
and utilization of agricultural and natural
resources in Namibia through teaching,
research and outreach to the food
industries and consumers in Namibia.
Vision
To become and remain an outstanding
teaching and research University
department that effectively contributes
to national, regional and global efforts to
promote value addition, food safety and
security and poverty reduction.
Location
Neudamm Campus is 35 km outside
Windhoek, 10 km before the Hosea
Kutako International Airport.
Staff
The department has eight members
of staff. Seven lecturers and one
laboratory technician, including FoodMicrobiologists, a Food Technologist,
Food Analyst, Food Chemist, Food
Nutritionist, Dairy Technologist and a
Food Engineer.

Composition analyses of low value
