A message from the Principal
Last Friday we held the official opening of the new
greenspace. The beautiful new space was a result of a joint
funding project between the P&C and a grant from Sussan
Ley (Stronger Communities grant). Sussan Ley was able to join
us on Friday to officially open the new quiet, passive
recreation area. Thank you to everyone for your patience
and flexibility with all of the additional security measures that
were required for the occasion. Thank you also to the P&C
who were able to attend.
Ms Tonya Kellett has been appointed to our school to fill the
Assistant Principal position vacated by Nathan Fisher when he
successfully gained the Principal position at Holbrook PS. Ms Kellett is currently an Assistant
Principal in Western NSW and she and her family are very excited to be joining the Albury PS
community in 2020. A huge congratulations to Mrs Mel Smithwick who will be moving to
Howlong PS next year to take up an Assistant principal position. Mrs Smithwick will be a huge
loss to our school, with all of her curriculum expertise and teacher professional development.
We wish her all the best for her future career.
A message from the Principal (continued)
This week, all staff participated in mandatory anaphylaxis and CPR training. This annual training
ensures that we have access to the latest information and practical application of basic
response and life support and refreshes our training in responding to anaphylaxis and basic first
aid.
Thank you to all of the parents/carers who have returned an expression of interest for School
Swim Scheme. A permission note will go home this week and should be returned to the office
with payment to cover pool entry by Monday 18 November. Families who hold season passes
will need to provide the school with the pass number on the permission note. Year 2 students
will attend for 10 days and students in Years 3 – 6 will attend for 9 days due to Presentation day.
The cost to Year 2 students is $33.00 per student and the cost to students in Years 3 – 6 is $30.00
per student. School Swim Scheme runs from Monday 2 December to Friday 13 December. If
you have any further questions regarding School Swim Scheme please contact Miss Sammi
Mundy at the school.
Today, Albury PS hosted the annual Proud and Deadly awards. These awards recognise our
local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and the community who supports them. It
was great to see all of the community celebrating with our students today and congratulations
to all of our award recipients.
Congratulations to Edward Byles who will be presented with a medal at an official ceremony in
Sydney later in the year for his outstanding performance in the ICAS Science test. Edward
receives his medal for the top score in Year 3 Science (across all participants in this
international test). This is a significant achievement. Well done, Edward.
ROAD SAFETY
The roads surrounding the school are very busy and this is certainly evident before school and after
school. Unfortunately there have been some very unsafe practices exhibited by parents collecting their
children.
** PLEASE do not double park and let your children out of the car
** PLEASE do not park on the other side of the road and call your children across
the road.
** PLEASE do not park in the bus zones
** PLEASE set a great example to your children by crossing with the green lights
at traffic lights, if you need to cross the road.
A Small Way, To Say A BIG Thank You. On Tuesday 26 November, the staff at Albury Public School
would like to say 'Thank you!" to all the parent and community helpers who have given some of
their time or contributed to our school during 2019. You are invited to the "Thank you" afternoon
tea, at 1:00pm, in the APS Hall. Personal invitations will be sent home soon.
Remembrance Day 2019 will be commemorated at Albury PS on Monday 11 November. Two of
our school leaders will attend the official ceremony at QE2 square and lay a wreath on behalf of
the school. The whole school will stop for a short service and wreath laying from 10:45am under
the COLA. Parents, friends and family are invited to join us.
Students in Years 3 – 6, interested in dance, are encouraged to audition for the 2020 junior
dance assemble. The Riverina Junior Dance Ensemble performs at the annual Riverina Dance
Festival, the Albury Wodonga Eisteddfod and (if their audition is successful) also at the State
Dance Festival in Sydney. The group may also be invited to perform at school and community
events in the Albury district throughout the year. Auditions for the Junior dance ensemble are
from 4:00 – 5:00pm on Tuesday 26 November at James Fallon HS. If you are interested, please
see Miss Milham for further information and application forms.
Presentation days 2019: This year, we have changed the Presentation days as we will not fit into
the Albury High School hall.
Years 3 – 6: Wednesday 11 December. The assembly will start at 10:45am.
Kindergarten: Will have their own assembly at school from 10:00 – 11:00am
Year 1 and 2: Will have their own assembly at school from 12:00 – 1:00pm
