This excellent maths system is the key to success as this is a distinctive
multi-sensory approach to children’s mathematical learning.
Numicon is researched and is used widely in most countries for teaching
Mathematics right from early childhood to primary school level. It is also used
as an Intervention Programme for children with special learning needs.
Objective: This workshop explores ways to use Numicon to support teaching and
learning in Mathematics. It will also allow participants to get actively involved
in the activities that would be conducted with the children.
An Introduction to the
Numicon™ Approach Workshop Date:
3rd March 2018 Saturday 9.30-11.30am Mrs Gunathilakan nee Rajalachime d/o Murugan
SEED Institute Lecturer
FOS Member Fee: $108 Non Member Fee: $138
NumiconTM workshop is exclusively conducted by September 21 International and SEED Institute
Numicon follows Bruner’s sequence of
teaching Mathematics: • ‘Begin with structured concrete materials, then develop imagery with
pictorial, and lastly, abstract’
• And Numicon also fulfils the requirements of the ‘Concrete-Pictorial-
Abstract approach’ (CPA approach) stated in the ‘Nurturing Early
Learners’ (NEL) Guide, Volume 6, on Numeracy
As a result, this approach meets all the children’s learning needs, as the
activities incorporate ‘rich’ tasks rather than worksheets.
