Aadhaar Payment Bridge (APB)
• Aadhaar Based Payment service offered by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)
• Easy to use mechanism for electronic credit of government welfare and subsidy payments on the basis of Aadhaar numbers as the primary key
• Benefits of APB - Provides end-to-end visibility of transactions to Government Ministries/ Departments and ensures that no duplicates/ fakes exist in the system thereby reducing leakages in government spending
• Over 39.4 Crore people have linked their Aadhaar to their bank accounts and ready to receive benefits directly into their Aadhaar linked accounts over Aadhaar based remittances.
Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS)
• Aadhaar Based Payment Mechanism that uses online Aadhaar authentication for customer identification and conduct basic financial transactions.
• Interoperable architecture of AEPS and microATMs enable online and real-time fund transfer across banks thus enabling an efficient, cost-effective remittance ecosystem offering doorstep banking services.
• Benefits of AePS - Enables the banks to go where the customer is present, instead of the other way around and allows interoperability among different systems adopted by different banks
• Over 49 crore Aadhaar linked bank accounts can use this infrastructure

Aadhaar Pay is merchant version of AEPS
The Application works on a low cost android phone with finger bio-metric device.
Currently 5 banks have launched pilots/gone live over AadhaarPAY viz: Andhra Bank, IDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank, State Bank of India and Syndicate Bank

A special meeting of the AePS Steering committee was held in Mumbai on 2nd February 2017 with participation from various banks, TCS, NPCI and NABARD. Discussions were held on

• Charges to merchant for each transaction
• Distribution of these funds across acquiring bank, issuer bank and NPCI
NPCI is working towards a tentative launch date of 11th February 2017

“Nothing contained in this Act shall prevent the use of Aadhaar number for
establishing the identity of an individual for any purpose, whether by the State or
any body corporate or person, pursuant to any law, for the time being in force, or
any contract to this effect:
Provided that the use of Aadhaar number under this section shall be subject to

12. Agencies requiring Aadhaar as condition for receipt of
service, etc. —
Any Central or State department or agency which requires an individual
to undergo authentication or furnish proof of possession of Aadhaar
number as a condition for receipt of any subsidy, benefit or service
pursuant to Section 7 of the Act, shall ensure enrolment of its
beneficiaries who are yet to be enrolled, through appropriate measures,
including co-ordination with Registrars and setting up enrolment centres
at convenient locations or providing enrolment facilities by becoming a
Registrar itself.
