That’s a Good Question How does FGCU support electronic
vending machines on an environmental friendly campus?
![Page 3: Ansley Parish Paper 3](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062706/5576abdad8b42ad0448b462b/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
ProblemAlthough students can stop for a quick snack between classes at a vending machine, the campus may perform better if students brought snacks from home.
![Page 4: Ansley Parish Paper 3](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062706/5576abdad8b42ad0448b462b/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Cont’d It would be more convenient to get rid
of vending machines in the favor of the environment and arising obesity problem in South West Florida.
![Page 5: Ansley Parish Paper 3](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062706/5576abdad8b42ad0448b462b/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Cont’d Snacks being brought from home allow
less time and may be a healthier option.
![Page 6: Ansley Parish Paper 3](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062706/5576abdad8b42ad0448b462b/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Then Again… Vending machines are convenient for
FGCU campus because it allows a student to satisfy a hunger need right when it calls and allows a student to go back for more.
![Page 7: Ansley Parish Paper 3](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062706/5576abdad8b42ad0448b462b/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Cont’d Vending machines are also beneficial
because they allow a variety of choices as well as no line. It is easy to grab and go on the way to class.
![Page 8: Ansley Parish Paper 3](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062706/5576abdad8b42ad0448b462b/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Listen Up Vending machine food choices are extremely
unhealthy for a person.
“The junk food provided through many vending machines is linked to such conditions as heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.” (Neel 2012)
![Page 9: Ansley Parish Paper 3](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062706/5576abdad8b42ad0448b462b/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Cont’d The amount of electricity used to
support vending machines is a large amount. Vending machines are kept on 24/7 on campus.
![Page 10: Ansley Parish Paper 3](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062706/5576abdad8b42ad0448b462b/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Cont’d Vending machines may affect the environment
and be a distraction to a student that is trying to learn.
"Schools provide not only an environment for learning but an environment that affects healthful eating and physical activity.” (Preidit 2010)
![Page 11: Ansley Parish Paper 3](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062706/5576abdad8b42ad0448b462b/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Cont’d Vending machines may cause long term effects
on unhealthy eating. “…vending machines in the majority of grade
schools in the United States have a negative effect on the eating practices of students.” (Edmondson 2011)
![Page 12: Ansley Parish Paper 3](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062706/5576abdad8b42ad0448b462b/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Cont’d Vending machines create easy access to
bad food all the time. With a vending machine in almost every building, it is hard to resist and say no.
![Page 13: Ansley Parish Paper 3](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062706/5576abdad8b42ad0448b462b/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Common Ground I believe that in order to achieve a
healthy and green environment, banning vending machines on campus would be most beneficial.
![Page 14: Ansley Parish Paper 3](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062706/5576abdad8b42ad0448b462b/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
How About This? Vending machines should offer healthy
alternative snacks such as fruits, yogurts, and juices instead of fatty and sugary foods.
![Page 15: Ansley Parish Paper 3](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062706/5576abdad8b42ad0448b462b/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Cont’d Vending machines should also be turned
on and off at a certain time frame each day in order to conserve energy.
