Why Protest against the War?• Some believed we should not be involved in
foreign conflicts• Some believed that after My Lai the U.S. army
was not doing anything beneficial in Vietnam.• Others were just tired of seeing their friends
and family dying in the war.• In addition many did not want to be sent into
war.

Chicago Democratic Convention
• Riots broke out at 1968 Democratic Convention when anti-war protests marched through the city.
• Police officers stopped to break up the peaceful demonstrations and a riot broke out.
• The Chicago Convention demonstrated a loss of law and order in society that many blamed on the Democrats.

How did Media play a role in the Anti-War movement?
• People were connected all over the country by video and sound of the protests.
• In addition musicians and hollywood incorporated the anti-war movement into music and movies.
• Also, the live news coverage from Vietnam allowed Americans to see what was happening in the war as it happens.

• You will create posters about the anti-war movement/protest. They should include at least one historical reference to an event or person discussed in the last three lessons. It should use both text and visuals to illustrate how American public opinion has changed through the year during the Vietnam War.
