Dear Colleagues
It gives us a great pleasure to welcome all of you to AO Craniomaxillofacial Educational Events in Asia Pacific. AOCMF Asia Pacific is composed of thirteen countries in the Asia Pacific region. We are very pleased to conduct courses, workshops and seminars of high quality in Asia Pacific. Our ultimate goal is to serve our patients by the teaching of current and tested treatment concepts in caniomaxillofacial practice. All colleagues regardless of sub-specialty or country of origin are equally welcome.
We would like to thank the entire international, regional and local faculty for the time they have taken to make such an event a reality. Last but not least, we would also like to thank our colleagues from Synthes, our major industrial partners. Without their support, this educational event would not be conducted so smoothly.
I hope you, our dear participants, enjoy this event and make new friends. Moreover, I also hope that you take home useful information from our lectures and hands-on workshops.
Yours sincerely,
AOCMF Advanced Innovations Symposium & Workshop on Technological Advances
Technological advances are revolutionarizing surgical disciplines. The inter-related fields of head and neck, cranio-maxillo-facial, otolaryngology and neurosurgery have taken a lead in this area, particularly to navigate complex anatomy and for the aesthetic and functional restoration and reconstruction of defects of the region. In the rapidly modernizing medical system of India, these surgical adjuncts are now increasingly being accessible in many medical institutions. Understanding the fundamentals of these technologies and acquiring skills through hands-on training are essential to take advantage and keep up-to-date in the field.
The “AOCMF Advanced Innovations Symposium and Workshop on Technologic Advances in Head and Neck and Craniofacial Surgery” for the first time in India, brings together pioneers in the fields from around the world for the benefit of practicing clinicians in the Indian subcontinent and Asia-Pacific region. The faculty will consist of internationally renowned surgeons, technologists, scientists and industrial partners. The four-day intensive course and workshop will have six major components: 1. Basics of image processing, 2. Advances in tissue engineering in head and neck reconstruction, 3. Surgical simulation, 4. Intra-operative navigation, 5. Endoscopic and robotic surgery and 6. opportunity for hands-on training for selected participants.
The workshop is being organized under the auspices of AOCMF of the international AO Foundation based in Switzerland, the Advanced Digital Technology (ADT) Foundation in Head and Neck Reconstruction and Mazumdar-Shaw Cancer Center, Narayana Health City, Bangalore and supported by industrial partners Synthes, Brainlab and Materialize.
At the conclusion of the didactic part of the course, the participant should be able to:a. Understand current knowledge regarding computer-aided surgical planning and intra-operative navigation in the field of cranio-maxillofacial surgery.b. Display basic principles of image-processing and tissue engineeringc. Identify appropriate applications for computer-aided pre-surgical planning and intra-operative navigation for treatment of traumatic, neoplastic and congenital diseasesd. Discuss the current utility of robotic and endoscopic surgery in the head and neck and craniofacial region.
At the conclusion of the hands-on part of the course, the participant should be able to:e. Demonstrate the psychomotor skills necessary to perform both pre-surgical planning and intra-operative navigationf. Generate a pre-surgical plan using computer-aided planning softwareg. Apply intra-operative navigation to guide tumor resection and cranio-facial reconstruction and hardware placementh. Evaluate the applicability of computer-aided techniques when analyzing postoperative results and outcome analysis
