AM I A PROMISING TEACHER?
My 10 Personal Qualities
Description of Myself Critical Examples
1. Passionate I have a passion for teaching
so that in everything that I
do in this training ground
for teachers, I always put my
heart into it. For instance,
when discussing/demo
teaching, I always give my
best because I believe that it
will help me to develop
myself as a future teacher.
2. Enthusiastic I always think more on the
positive and little less on
the negative. Even when

things get tough or I
encountered problems, I
always keep a smile on my
face because I see the bright
side of everything. Also, I’m
always motivated so I always
have a positive energy in
whatever I do. When I am
stressed because of school
requirements, I feel blessed
because I am given the
opportunity to grow
intellectually, emotionally,
and socially.
3. Caring I always feel like I am
committed to serve
everyone around me. I am
caring especially to
children. It’s fun being with
them, teaching them,
dancing, playing, and
singing with them. Like
when we had an extension
program at Brgy. Alawihao, I
easily became attached to
the children. Even though
we’re not relatives, I treated
them as my family. I
remember when a child
cried, she said she was being
bullied by other kids. What I
did was to cheer her up and
play with her. I will always
care for everyone. That’s
what my parents taught me
and that’s also what I
wanted to do.

4. Willing to learn Every day, I think of my
mind as an empty glass of
water so that I would be able
to acquire more knowledge.
I’m not afraid to be
corrected by others if it
would help me to learn
something I never knew
before. When I am
reporting/discussing, I
usually let my classmates to
share their insights about a
topic because I believe that
there should be an
interactive teaching and
learning process. I would
use this when I’m already
teaching because the
teacher is no longer the sole
source of learning, but also
the students. As a future
teacher, I always aim to
learn more to do more.
5. Helpful I am always willing to give a
hand to those in need. For
instance, when my cousin
asked me something about a
game for introducing oneself
in the classroom, I shared
my knowledge and told her a
good strategy that she can
use. When my classmates
needed an internet
connection and a place to do
their school requirements, I
let them come to my house

5
and sometimes, I help them
in doing their works.
6. Creative When having a
report/discussion, I usually
make use of instructional
materials. Being creative
doesn’t mean that I’m good
at drawing or painting, but
instead, it just means that I
have an imaginative mind to
think creatively of the
materials I can use in my
discussion. I’m always
trying to develop my
creativity because it would
help me a lot when I’m
already a teacher. It would
make me an effective
teacher because IMs arouse
the interests of the
students.
7. Hardworking I always burn the midnight
oil. When we will have
quizzes, recitations,
reports, or exams, I usually
stay up late at night to
review my notes because I
always want to come class
prepared. I believe that in a
battle, you will lose when
you don’t have a weapon and
I think the best weapon that
I can have is being prepared
in everything. I may always
be tired, but this will help

me to be a successful
teacher in the future.
8. Open-minded I am always open to change.
I believe that the only
constant thing in the world
is change so I always accept
new ways, ideas, systems,
etc. So, when a person is
telling me something, I am
always willing to listen
because I respect his/her
ideas and opinions.
9. Empathetic There are times that my
friends share their problems
with me. I would always
listen to them and imagine
that I’m in their shoes/I’m
the one experiencing that
problem. With that, I can
understand what they feel. I
usually give advices to help
them solve their problem. I
am always compassionate
with them when they’re
down and I also celebrate
with them when they’re
up/happy.
10. Good at Time
Management
I usually make a checklist of
the tasks I should do and
listed them according to
importance. For instance, I
have projects to do, and I
must review for exams and
recitations, I list them in a
bond paper and post it on
my drawer so that every

time I look at my drawer, I
would be reminded of the
things I must do. In this
way, I can pass my projects
on time and be prepared for
exams and recitations.
My 10 Personal Qualities that I Intend to Further
Develop
My Personal Qualities Rationales
1. Good in Self-
management
I believe that time
management is not
enough, so I need to be
able to manage myself. I
should always be
productive. I should first
learn how to manage
myself to be able to
manage my tasks. I should
be organized and know
how to organize things.
2. Resourceful I should be able to do when
unexpected things happen.
I should utilize my
creativity and imaginative
mind.
3. Confident I should be confident
because I believe that a
teacher is always on step
ahead from the students. I
should always be prepared
and have a wide knowledge
to be confident.

4. Effective Communicator I should be able to
effectively communicate
my students by means of
catching their attention
and making them learn
from me.
5. Flexible I should be able to adapt
and adjust my teaching
strategies to make them
suitable to my students.
6. Fair I should not be biased. I
should always weight
things equally and fairly.
In my future teaching
career, I should not have a
favoritism in the
classroom.
7. Intelligent I should have more input
knowledge because I
believe that I cannot give
what I do not have. So, I
should read more to know
more.
8. Model I should be able to be a role
model and a good example
to my students. I should
exemplify model behaviors
so that students will also
be well-behaved.
9. Inspirational I should be able to inspire
and motivate my students.
I should be their guide for
them to realize their
potentials, help them to
grow, and help them to

find their talents, skills,
and abilities.
10. Sociable I should be sociable in a

with everyone. I should be
approachable to my
colleagues, students, and
my students’ parents.

I do believe that I embody these desirable qualities of a teacher. I

teacher. Yes, I am caring and loving in a way that I always get emotionally

attached to people. I am also fair because I always think objectively, not
subjectively. I respect other people’s ideas and thoughts. I am enthusiastic and
have a positive energy in everything I do. I am dedicated and loyal to serving
the society. I am reflective because I always have some reflection and learnings
from my experiences. I am creative and resourceful in thinking imaginatively
and making instructional materials. I am also responsible and honest. However,
I think I am still not competent enough. But, I’ll do my best to be competent
because it is one of the aspects to be an effective teacher.
A. Which of the desirable teacher's quality do you have at the moment?
List them down.
✓ Caring/Loving ✓ Fair ✓ Respectful ✓ Enthusiastic/Joyful ✓ Dedicated/Loyal ✓ Reflective ✓ Creative/Resourceful ✓ Responsible ✓ Honest/Truthful
B. Which of your present qualities do you want to further develop or
strengthen? Are they in the list of desirable teachers' qualities?
I wanted to become competent. Yes, it is one of the desirable teachers’
qualities. Being competent means being full packaged. It means being
proficient and knowing the what-when-how in teaching. Meaning, if I am
competent, I have already mastered what to teach, when to teach, and how to
teach. I wanted to develop the quality of being competent because it will greatly
help me to become an effective teacher.

C. Think of the teachers you have observed.
C1. Which desirable personal qualities of teachers do most of them
possess?
Both teachers I have observed embody all the desirable personal qualities of teachers listed above. They are caring and loving in such a way that they are concerned for students’ welfare. They are fair since they do not show favoritism in the classroom, they treat their students equally. They are respectful because they respect the opinions and ideas of their students. They are enthusiastic and joyful because they have a positive energy in teaching and in return, the students also show the same energy they have given to them. They are dedicated and loyal since they do not teach just because of earning money, but because of their commitment to teach and let their students grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally. They are reflective since reflect from their experiences and gain knowledge from it. They are creative and resourceful because they have used instructional materials that catch the interest of the students. They are responsible in doing their tasks as teachers. They are honest and truthful in giving feedback to the students’ performance. All in all, they are competent enough to be effective teachers.
C2. Which attributes did you not have the opportunity to observe?
I believe that I had the opportunity to observe all the attributes listed
above because to be an efficient, effective, and promising teacher you must
embody all that attributes of an effective teacher because they are all important.
Without one, you will never be a highly promising teacher.
Something to Ponder
If I have 9-10 of the desirable teachers’ qualities, therefore I am highly promising.
If I have 7-8 of the desirable teachers’ qualities, then I am a promising teacher.
If I have 0-6 of the desirable teachers’ qualities, then I must strive in developing those
qualities for my personal growth.

B. Make your personal diary of your progress in achieving your plan of
action.
Dear Diary,
Today, I have prepared instructional
materials for my report/discussion this week. Also,
I have read articles about stylistics and translation
which are aspects of the English language. I have
also made a checklist of the tasks that I should do,
and I was able to finish 2/5 of the checklist. Before
I was able to make instructional materials for my
discussion, I first researched on how to make
those, and I believe that I was able to practice well
so I can be able to apply it in my future teaching
career. That’s all for today. I hope I can do more
tomorrow.
Love,
Xena
