POETRY IN AMERICA
The 13-part series Poetry in America draws students of all ages into conversations about poetry. Hosted by Harvard University professor Elisa New, each half-hour episode highlights the work of one distinguished poet (Sonia Sanchez, Jorie Graham, Robert Polito) with a reading by an individual well known for accomplishments outside the humanities (Elena Kagan, Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court; Grammy-Award winner Herbie Hancock; and rapper poet Nas), as well as a chorus of others, including: a group of Harlem schoolchildren, a pick-up basketball team, the crew aboard an oceanographic vessel, and students from the National Student Poets program. The fast-moving, beautifully shot series offers viewers a fully immersive experience in hearing, reading, and interpreting a single American poem. Scholar Elisa New opens a conversation about poetry and encourages viewers at home to extend the discussion past the episode’s end. Airs Wednesdays at 9:30PM beginning April 4th

TREZOROS: THE LOST JEWS OF KASTORIA
Using never-before-seen pre-war archival footage and first-person testimonies, Trezoros: The Lost Jews of Kastoria chronicles the Jewish life and culture of Kastoria, a picturesque lakeside village in the mountains of Northwestern Greece, near the Albania border. Here, Jews and Greek Orthodox Christians lived together in harmony for more than two millennia until World War II, when this long and rich history would be wiped out in the blink of an eye. Trezoros (the Ladino/Judeo/Spanish term of endearment meaning "treasures") takes us from the joyful innocence of the pre-war years through the heartbreaking struggles of the Holocaust, to a unique place in time and history of a Greek Jewish culture lost forever.
Airs Tuesday, April 24th at 8PM
NEW ENVIRONMENTALISTS: FROM GUATEMALA TO THE CONGO
The new environmentalists share a common goal, safeguarding the Earth’s natural resources from exploitation and pollution. The program features portraits of six passionate and dedicated activists around the globe who have placed themselves squarely in harm’s way to battle intimidating adversaries for environmental justice in their communities. Narrated by Robert Redford, New Environmentalists illustrates how ordinary people are effecting extraordinary change.

Nature/Science/AdventureTHE HIMALAYA CONNECTION
Shot in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Mongolia, Nepal and Pakistan, the film explores the dramatic and far-reaching effects of the Indian and Asian tectonic plates crashing below the Himalayas and their impact on the region's geology, climate and people. It also reveals how the Indian-Asian plate collision created notable geologic superlatives: Earth's highest mountain range—the Himalayas—and some of Earth's largest rivers, such
as the Brahmaputra, Ganges, and Indus, which flow from the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau to sustain 45 percent of all the people in the world. Yet these rich benefits to humanity are coupled with great risks in the form of major earthquakes, frequent flooding, landslides, and erosion. The Himalaya Connection explores how the devastating Nepal earthquake of 2015 spurred intensified efforts by scientists to better understand earthquake processes and to successfully push for stronger defensive measures throughout the region.
