MICROSOFT® SHAREPOINT®
SharePoint is good for organizational knowledge management• Large community for applications and
support• Good for corporate document
archive, workflow, and search
However, limitations prevent broader adoption and organizational enterprise usage
5
LIMITATIONS WITH MICROSOFT SHAREPOINT
Size & VolumeCan’t upload large individual files or store enough in SharePoint document libraries and content repositories due to total size and number of file limits
SpeedUnable to reliably upload or download large files at high-speed over your wide area network
DistanceFile uploads and downloads that move over long distances are slow or fail whether over public internet, MPLS corporate networks, wireless networks
ControlDoes not provide transfer rate control or enough storage flexibility to move and store files anywhere, i.e., on-premises, cloud or hybrid infrastructure
Collaborate and share
with high-speed uploads
and downloads of any
size file or number of files
to data libraries and
content repositories of
any size
ASPERA FOR SHAREPOINTIMPROVED PERFORMANCE AND EXPANDED CAPABILITIES
Upload multi-GB size files and store virtually any volume of files in SharePoint content repositories and document libraries
Upload and download files at maximum speed to and from any location using your existing network bandwidth
Reliably and predictably upload and download big files over any distance across public internet, MPLS corporate networks, and wireless networks
Control and prioritize transfers and move and store your SharePoint files anywhere, i.e., on-premises, cloud or hybrid infrastructure

SEAMLESS INTEGRATION INTO SHAREPOINT
Aspera high-speed upload and download features are tightly integrated into SharePoint
Aspera for SharePoint administration options• Accessible by Site Administrators.• Map document libraries to Aspera transfer nodes.
• Transfer nodes can be on premise or in the cloud.• Manage optional client licensing.
• Files can be stored on disk or in the SharePoint database.
• Storage filtering options.
Native SharePoint site administration• Use existing document library settings• Use existing content types
• Use corporate Active Directory• Enable in multiple sites/subsites
13
STANDARD SHAREPOINT ADMINISTRATION
SHAREPOINT INTEGRATION ARCHITECTURE
1. User authenticates to SharePoint2. SharePoint application communicates with
Aspera via Node API3. Content is uploaded to and downloaded to /
from on-premises or cloud storage via Aspera Connect Server
THE SOLUTION

3
Option to use Aspera Drive client to transfer files to and from SharePoint
15
ASPERA DRIVE CLIENT INTEGRATION WITH SHAREPOINT
• Drag-and-drop files or folders into and out of SharePoint using Drive’s native integration with Mac Finder and Windows File Explorer
• Browse SharePoint data in remote directories
• Automatically update SharePoint document library when new files are added
Supported Platforms• Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013/2016 and Office 365 • IIS 8.0 (preferred) or later• All SharePoint supported browsers
Requirements• Aspera for Microsoft SharePoint licensing• Aspera Enterprise Server + Connect Server Add-On• High Availability option available• Aspera Drive client optional
Additional licensing details upon request
16
SUPPORTED PLATFORMS AND LICENSING
New options – available May 2016• Option to store content in SharePoint as a link (to save space) or as regular SharePoint files
(up to a specified file size).
• Use familiar SharePoint tools (such as Microsoft Office ) to create and edit files, but still use Aspera tools to download these files.
• Versioning support for files stored inside of SharePoint.
• Greatly increased scalability, though multiple site collection support.
17
UPCOMING FEATURES (VERSION 1.5)
Distance degrades conditions on all networks• Latency (or Round Trip Times) increases• Packet loss increases
• Fast networks are just as prone to degradation
TCP performance degrades severely with distance• TCP was designed for LANs and does not perform well over distance
• Throughput bottlenecks are severe as latency & packet loss increase
TCP does not scale with bandwidth• TCP designed for low bandwidth
• Adding more bandwidth does not improve throughput
Alternative technologies• TCP-based - Network latency & packet loss must be low to work well
• UDP blasters – Inefficient use of bandwidth leads to congestion• Modified TCP – Does not scale well on high-speed networks
• Data caching - Inappropriate for many large file transfer workflows
• Data compression - Time consuming & impractical for some file types
19
CHALLENGES WITH TCP AND ALTERNATIVE TECHNOLOGIES
Note: Table displays throughput degradation of TCP transfers on a 1Gbps network as estimated round trip time and packet loss increases with distance.
Maximum transfer speed• Optimal end-to-end throughput efficiency• Transfer performance scales with bandwidth independent
of transfer distance and resilient to packet loss
Congestion avoidance and policy control• Automatic, full utilization of available bandwidth (fair play)• On-the-fly prioritization of transfers• Set caps on bandwidth allocation for transfers
Uncompromising security and reliability• Secure, SSH user/endpoint authentication • AES-128 to 256 cryptography of every packet in transit • Encryption at rest (EAR) requires second password• FIPS 140-2 compliant, built on the open SSL libraries• Automatic resume of partial or failed transfers
Scalable management, monitoring and control• Support highly concurrent transfers • Real-time progress, performance and bandwidth utilization• Detailed transfer history, logging, and manifest
20
FASP® – HIGH-PERFORMANCE DATA TRANSPORT
Note: The relative bandwidth utilization for FASP transfers over a 1 Gbps network are immune to latency (distance) with very little effect from packet loss.
Location AgnosticFASP transfer speeds remain virtually constant as transfer distances increase while FTP speeds dramatically decrease
Predictable & ReliableFASP transfer times decrease linearly as bandwidth increases. However, FTP transfer times don’t improve with bandwidth
VersatileSupports massive file sizes (500 GB+) as easily as very large sets (millions) of small files
21
FASP® – PERFORMANCE BREAKTHROUGH
Extraordinary bandwidth control that doesn’t saturate the network• Automatic detection & full utilization of available bandwidth with “fair” policy protection of other network traffic• Allows “bursts” in TCP traffic and reclaims unused bandwidth as it as it becomes available
22
