and Ohio University faculty Please join us for our annual non-‐competitive high school jazz band & combo festival at Ohio University! Each ensemble will receive written comments, and an immediate post-‐performance workshop with the clinicians. Participating groups also perform a second time during the day for the public at the Baker Center Front Room coffeehouse. Ensembles will receive participation certificates. The adjudicators will present Outstanding Musicianship awards and select one or more bands to perform on the evening concert featuring the guest artists with Ohio University Jazz Ensembles. At least one clinic/masterclass will be scheduled for your students during the day Saturday. You are also invited to attend the main Athens Jazz Festival concert on Saturday, April 18, 7:30pm, featuring Jeff Bush and James Moore with Ohio University Jazz Ensembles, plus selected high school ensembles. Templeton-‐Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium, Ohio University. Concert admission is FREE!

EQUIPMENT: Ohio University will provide the following equipment for warm-‐up and performance spaces: Chairs & stands – set up assistance will be provided. Guitar, keyboard & bass amplifiers; drum set, vibraphone, tuned acoustic piano, PA system Risers for trumpets and trombones will be provided in the performance space. NOTE: Drummers may use their own cymbals, bass drum pedal, and snare drum in performance.

2015 ATHENS JAZZ FESTIVAL INFORMATION & GUIDELINES
1. APPLICATION DEADLINE is Monday, April 1, 2015. Apply online or send attached form.
2. ENTRY FEE: $125 for one ensemble; $50 for each additional ensemble per school. Please make checks payable to OHIO UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MUSIC.
3. SATURDAY “ROAD MAP”. An OHIO student will meet and guide all ensembles from arrival to the conclusion of their activities performance and clinic. Each ensemble is allotted 25 minutes for on-‐stage tuning and performing and 25 minutes for an immediate workshop with a clinician.
4. PLEASE LIMIT SELECTIONS TO THREE PIECES! Each group should perform works in a variety of styles (swing, ballad, funk, Latin, etc.).
5. SATURDAY POST-‐PERFORMANCE ACTIVITIES: • Each ensemble will receive an immediate clinic after the performance. • Ensembles have the option of a second performance in the Baker Center Front Room coffeehouse. • Various activities will take place throughout the day, including jazz clinic/masterclass
6. EQUIPMENT STORAGE: Storage space for school/personal equipment will be provided. However, Ohio University is not liable for any school or student equipment.
7. ADJUDICATION: All ensembles will receive written comments and a certificate for participation. The emphasis is upon education. The adjudicators' packets will be mailed to each ensemble.
8. CITATIONS/PERFORMANCE AWARDS: The clinicians will select students to receive Outstanding Musicianship citations and will select one or more ensembles to perform on the evening concert.
9. EQUIPMENT: Ohio University will provide all equipment (stands, amps, drums, percussion, keyboards, etc.) in warm up and performance rooms. Drummers may use their own cymbals, snare drum, and bass drum pedal. Guarded storage space of school/personal equipment will be provided.
10. GENERAL INFORMATION: All big bands must perform in the "stacked" format. A campus map, parking and food information and a scheduling update will be sent to you upon receipt of your application.

2015 ATHENS JAZZ FESTIVAL ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES
Jeff Bush, trombone
Apollo, Pennsylvania native Jeff Bush moved to New York City in 2000 to begin a Master's degree at The Manhattan School of Music and to pursue a freelance career which continues to flourish today. Bush is honored to have performed with a number of great jazz artists including The Toshiko Akiyoshi/Lew Tabakin Big Band, The Count Basie Orchestra, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Cyrus Chestnut, Kevin Mahogany, Marlena Shaw, Benny Golson, Jon Hendricks, Ahmad Jamal, Vanessa Rubin, Jimmy Heath and Anthony Braxton, and The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Bush joined the big band of superstar Harry Connick Jr in February 2007 and stayed with the group through early 2009. In other musical genres, Jeff has worked with The Temptations, The Four Tops, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, Paul Anka, Manhattan Transfer, Bobby Caldwell, Freda Payne, HBO's The Sopranos and The New York City Ballet. He has also performed on tenor trombone, bass trombone and tuba in the pit orchestras of the New York City Broadway shows Wonderful Town, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Pajama Game, South Pacific and How The Grinch Stole Christmas. As a sideman Bush has appeared on over thirty albums, including Grapefruit Moon with Southside Johnny and Tom Waits. He has performed on The PBS Television special, My Sinatra, and can even be heard on "jingles" for the TV show Jeopardy and Rice-‐A-‐Roni. Jeff made his debut as leader in 2010 on "Ain't So Bad To Swing" for Beezwax Records and is currently working on his second studio project comprised of original material. Bush can also be found as a regular member of The Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra with Sean Jones. Jeff serves as an adjunct instructor of trombone and low brass at West Virginia Wesleyan College and as and adjunct instructor of jazz studies at Duquesne University.
James Moore, trumpet
Dr. James Moore, Associate Professor of Music, is the Director of Jazz Ensembles and instructor of trumpet at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Since 2011 he has served as the chairperson of the Department of Music at WV Wesleyan and has worked to build one of the most vibrant collegiate jazz programs in the region. Dr. Moore is an active member of the Pittsburgh jazz community where he is a member of the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra and has been a member of RH Factor—the Roger Humphries quintet. In addition to his work in Pittsburgh he performs regularly with the Norman David Eleventet in Philadelphia as well as many other collaborative ventures in that city. He has performed with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, the Bob Mintzer Big Band, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Ahmad Jamal, Sheryl Bailey, Tim Warfield, and the Lars Halle Jazz Orchestra. Moore appeared on Bob Mintzer’s GRAMMY nominated album For the Moment, released on the MCG Jazz label in 2012. Moore is also an active clinician, having worked with many high school honors jazz ensembles throughout Pennsylvania and Western Maryland. He has presented master classes at dozens of high schools and colleges in the region. He is also a member of the Artist Faculty of the National Trumpet Competition, as well as serving on the research review board of the International Trumpet Guild. His articles on jazz trumpet pedagogy have been published by the Australian and International Trumpet Guilds. Moore studied trumpet with Bonnie Miltenberger, Neil Stalnaker, John Swana, and Tim Hagans. He holds an MM in Jazz Studies from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and is the first recipient of the PhD in Jazz Studies from the University of Pittsburgh where his advisor was Dr. Nathan T. Davis—founder of the original Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra.
