Context Small but important part of local economy Limited commercial harvesting to date Majority of timber accessed on existing roads within the
Ministry of Forests “Administrative Areas” along Wilson Creek and near Fourth of July Creek.
Harvesting is typically in <1 hectare clearcuts, or selective harvest if > 1 hectare.

Management Issues to Address Potential conflict between harvesting and
environmental, ecosystem and cultural values

Goals Commercial Forestry:
remains small-scale, community based and contributes to local jobs
Sustains social and ecological values protects important cultural sites, features and
landscapes
4

(firewood, personal building material) Maintain visual quality Minimize impacts on wildlife and cultural values
5
Zoning Concept under discussion Draft zone map developed
Commercial Forest Harvest Zone O’Donnell to Yukon, east side of lake
No Commercial Forest Harvest Zone Remainder of the LUP Area
6
Commercial Forest Harvest Zone Boundaries to be refined Will be “no harvest areas” within the zone to
protect critical habitats & cultural sites Still under discussion
7
No Commercial Forest Harvest Zone Would exclude all forms of commercial forest
tenure Would not exclude non forestry related harvest
(e.g. mineral properties, road R/W to access mineral claims)
Would not exclude non-commercial use (e.g. firewood, personal building material)
