STUDENT/PARENT CONTRACT:
Participants are required to attend ALL “called” rehearsals. This means whenever a participant is in a song or scene, they must attend the entire rehearsal. Directors will use email and the Remind App to communicate with parents.
Please pick your child up on time and/or plan car-pool arrangements prior to rehearsal.
Directors DO NOT offer explanation for casting decisions. Directors will not discuss auditions or personal feedback with
students/parents until 36 hours after casting announcement. When your child is ready for honest feedback from the Directing Team, it can be provided at the child’s request. Conversations such as “Why did ____ get the role over me?” are not permissible in theater.
Participants can be recast at any point at the Directors’ discretion.
All auditions and rehearsals are CLOSED to the public. No parents, siblings, or students who are not auditioning are allowed at any audition or rehearsal. Only the musical production staff and auditioning students will be present during the auditions. Only production volunteers (costume lead, prop lead, etc.) will be allowed in rehearsal/audition areas. Please respect this policy so that students are free to take risks and get the most out of this theatrical experience. You will be auditioning the song ALONE for the directing team. The dance portion of the audition could be in a small group of other auditioning students. Callbacks may be in groups.
A student’s first priority lies in his or her academics. Please adhere to HMS policy.
Before your student auditions, please take the time to discuss the necessary production expectations and commitments. Full dedication from all students is imperative to the success of this show. That being said, we do our absolute best to schedule rehearsals with as few conflicts as possible.
After school rehearsals begin promptly at 3:00. Please manage your time and get your homework done. Grades come first.
While at rehearsals, students are required to always dress comfortably and bring their scripts and a pencil to make notes. Boots and/or flip-flops are not allowed at rehearsals.
Having conflicts will not necessarily keep a student from being a part of the production. We will try to be as flexible as possible and we ask you to do the same. If you are able to change times and/or dates of lessons, practices, appointments, etc. then we ask that you do so first. The most important part of this, however, is the upfront knowledge of what we are dealing with as far as schedules are concerned. While we understand that emergencies do happen, it is detrimental to the process of creating theatre to have people suddenly miss rehearsal because they “forgot”, they “went home on the bus accidentally”, or if someone has “something better to do.” Check your rehearsal and email/Remind schedule daily to know when you are called.
All students auditioning must be aware that previous participation in any musical or play DOES NOT guarantee you a spot/role in this year’s show. On the same note, students who held lead roles in past years are NOT guaranteed lead roles for this year. All auditioning are expected to come prepared knowing the audition song and be ready to read/act for any parts as per the casting directors. Roles will be given based on preparation and overall needs of the production.
Misconduct at rehearsals will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to, disrespect for director or other production team member or cast member, destruction of props, horse-play, and removal of any items from rehearsal area without permission from teacher/director. Any misconduct will result in dismissal from the rehearsal and potentially the production.
We do our best to only call students to rehearsal when they are needed. It is important that students are prepared to use their down time wisely. We suggest working on memorization of music, lines, or choreography. We also suggest that students bring homework so they may keep up with their studies. Headphones may be helpful. Directors WILL NOT tolerate any misbehavior or wandering during rehearsals/shows.
Cell phones/Chromebooks are NOT allowed in rehearsal space. They should be off or on silent mode in your backpack unless a director requests you take your phone out for rehearsal purposes such as recording or if you are working on homework.
