New Variety for Southern NSW: LO23B-23
" LO23B-23 has been promoted to phase 1 year 2 – Commercial evaluation 2 sites 2009-10 (Whitton & Coleambally)
" To replace Djakal (~4.15t/ha & 115days) with • slightly earlier maturity (2 days) • higher yields (8.5%..... 4.5t/ha 2009-10) • Higher protein content (14% higher) • Positive end user approval • Grower evaluation received +ve feedback • Good crop agronomics and disease tolerances • Clear hilum
" 3 other lines progressing to Phase 1 strip trials – Targeting Lachlan & Macquarie Valleys
Variety development for expanding area & new farming systems in Southern NSW & Victoria
" High yields over a range of treatments/maturity types
" Beds vs bays irrigation layout (irrigation FS evolving) – Growers wishing grow soybean broad-acre (not row crop)
– Significant yield increase (up to 6t/ha or 25%) of some unreleased genotypes & plant types with narrow rows (30cm) in bay layout directly compared to 6ft beds
– Small bays & very fast water on & off
– Agronomy research required to extend this work with options of inter-row planting of soybean into wheat stubble
• Reduced early water use & increased grain yield of soybean

NF246-64 & PR443 Data Summary Replicated field trials LVT (4 Reps)
Analysed data averages for 4 seasons 2006-07 to 2009-10
• provides clear hilum option for mid-season planting North Coast NSW (replace A6785)
• large seed size, high protein
• yield matches A6785 & Manta at mid season sowing date, addresses yield lag for clear hilum genotypes
• weathering tolerance sim to A6785/Manta, better than Soya791, Bunya, Warrigal, addresses lag in weathering tolerance for clear hilum types
• compact plant, less lodging than A6785, clean leaf drop, easy to harvest
• maturity not suited to southern QLD (trials in southern Qld 2010-11)
• likely to extend range of clear hilum types further south eg. Taree
• possible grain type NSW Tablelands?

New Varieties for North Coast NSW NK55C-32 ‘Haymaker’
Primary role for hay & silage production – replace A6785 & Warrigal
• for mid-late season planting window on North Coast (end Dec-mid Jan)
• tall, large biomass
• highly tolerant to lodging
• slow maturing = longer window to make hay & silage, important for coastal climate
• extend to NSW Tablelands (sheep industry)

Haymaker
Additional role for grain production
• large seed, clear hilum, high protein & possesses 11sA4 protein null (for tofu)
• weathering tolerance similar to A6785, much better than Warrigal
• extends planting window for North Coast by 2 weeks to late Jan/early Feb
• suited to grain production into QLD
• included in grain variety trials in Lockyer Valley & Bundaberg in QLD 2010-11
• topped yield trial at Gatton (5.74t/ha), maturity only 5 days > Bunya
